'Followed him off a cliff': John King spots signs MAGA finally 'crushed' by midterms

CNN’s John King delivered a devastating assessment of Donald Trump’s political standing Wednesday, declaring that voters had “crushed and crumbled” his MAGA coalition in a sweeping rejection of the president’s agenda.

Standing at CNN’s famous Magic Wall, King walked through election results showing Democrats making major gains in states Trump had carried comfortably in previous elections.

“What the American voter did last night was to revolt and to repudiate the president,” King told anchor Dana Bash. “And in the process, Dana, they just crushed and crumbled the MAGA coalition.”

King pointed first to Iowa, where Democrats flipped three Republican House seats and won both the Senate and governor’s races.

“The MAGA coalition out in Iowa — mostly white working-class people, farmers, small cities — crushed,” he declared Wednesday.

King then turned to North Carolina, highlighting a Democratic victory in a western district where Republicans had long dominated.

“The MAGA coalition in western North Carolina crumbled,” King said.

But some of the most striking results came from Texas, where Republicans had redrawn congressional districts at Trump’s demand in hopes of gaining five seats.

Instead, King noted, Democrats won four of those five districts, powered largely by Latino voters.

The Lone Star State dealt a further blow to Trump’s coalition by electing its first Democratic governor in 36 years and its first Democratic U.S. senator in 38 years.

King then turned to Vice President JD Vance’s home state of Ohio, where MAGA gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy lost, and Democrat Sherrod Brown won Vance’s former Senate seat.

“MAGA was on the ballot big time here, Dana, and MAGA here, and just about everywhere, got crushed,” King concluded. “They followed Trump, and last night they followed him off a cliff.”
