A longtime friend of President Donald Trump is pushing for an emergency order “tantamount to martial law” if Democrats rack up big wins in the midterm elections.
“I’m pushing for it,” MAGA attorney Peter Ticktin told MS Now’s Vaughn Hillyard in an exclusive interview.
Ticktin represents Tina Peters, the former Colorado election official convicted of breaching her county’s voting system. Both have met with Trump inside the Oval Office for conversations that offer a glimpse of the federal intervention some election-denying allies want to see unfold as voters head to the polls.
Ticktin suggested a sweeping Democratic victory could warrant military involvement in seizing ballots and voting equipment.
“This is too serious and too much of an emergency, and they’re going to have to rely on the military,” he said. “Even if we lose the House by one or two, I don’t know that that would cause a major reaction, but let’s just say 10 senators go over to the Democrats.”
When pressed on who he was lobbying, Ticktin replied, “With those whose ear I have.”
Peters, meanwhile, argued in the MS NOW interview on the eve of Election Day that Trump already has authority to send federal law enforcement agents to investigate vote counting.
“I think the president knows his powers,” she said.
Neither of the MAGA figures disclosed how Trump responded to their proposals. The White House did not respond to MS NOW’s questions.
“Federal law enforcement can investigate suspected election crimes, but obtaining ballots or voting equipment typically requires a legal process, such as a search warrant or subpoena,” the outlet reported Monday.
But Peters also appeared to acknowledge the limits of her influence.
“Do I have major sway over the administration? No, I don’t,” she said. “But they are, like I said, they are willing to listen and open to information,” adding, “It’s up to them what they do with it.”
