Video: McCain/Palin thug rips up Obama sign

You know how many times I've passed some McCain/Palin sign and wanted to go rip it up? I've lost count, but I have enough class and sense to know that if someone puts the damn sign on their property that I have no business going up there and removing it. Not the McCain/Palin mob Base; what's yours is theirs to destroy (sounds a lot like Dear Leader's administration, no?). Check out this woman - the man who made the sign she is destroying videotapes the whole thing - and he's not happy. She doesn't give a damn.

Barack Obama invented abortion

I have to admit that I'm somewhat shocked that the McCain/Palin campaign---in addition to running with the "Obama is a terrorist" lie---has picked up the "Obama supports infanticide" lie, and are putting it out in their robocalls. As John Cole says, here's the results:

FL: cop fired after Taser used on 15 year old as party entertainment

When I receive emails about Taser abuse, it's usually about the device's role in a death, or use as a compliance device rather than a last resort before drawing a gun. Even though those are horrific instances, it's hard to top the level of abuse and professional incompetence of Officer Dan Nesmith of the Eustis, FL police department, who discharged his Taser on a teenage boy during a party where the officer was drinking with minors. How stupid is Nesmith? He was captured on tape using the shock device on the young man for kicks. Needless to say, he has been fired.

The Era Of Us Is Just Beginning

imageAlthough this George Will quote is getting a bunch of attention because it joins the ever-expanding train of comments theorizing that the only reason one black person supports another is because of race, while white people join together in book clubs and farmer's markets and whatever else it is white people do because white people simply share interests, like being white and having money and stuff.

Rich Republicans and working class Democrats

Ezra has written a review of the book Red State, Blue State, Rich State, Poor State Andrew Gelman, who has written a book exposing the truth behind one of the weirder myths of American politics---that people are more likely to vote Democratic the richer they get. The other assumption, which is getting a lot of play as people gape in horror at the imbeciles filling up McCain/Palin rallies with their conspiracy theories and their hate, is that Republican voters are uneducated working class people. As I mentioned before, the most interesting example of that stereotype I've seen was the commenters at Sadly, No who looked at this picture and assumed it was a double wide. It is, in fact, an extremely expensive house in a pretty well-to-do neighborhood. Granted, most of the houses around it have Obama signs, so it's easy to see where the stereotype of rich or at least upper middle class Democrats comes from, but Gelman has statistics to explain why that is, and a lot of it has to do with the blueness of Austin itself. See, well off liberals tend to flock together in dense areas where they have a disproportionate influence on the media image of both wealth and liberalism.

The Right's ACORN head fake unleashes more evil

Jesse covered some of the ACORN ground, but I had to post on this nonsense. John McCain said this in the last presidential debate:

John McCain: the ultimate self-loathing man, tries to save NC with man who slimed him in SC

Let's just say it out loud one more time -- John McCain is sick in the head. The pursuit of the presidency for the Arizona senator has so corrupted him that he's willing to hire the strategist who was responsible for the 2000 "black baby" rumor (that his adopted daughter Bridget was the result of a dalliance with a prostitute) responsible for destroying his chances the last time around.
