Paul Gosar's brother says the Arizona Republican congressman is "an inveterate liar" who knew exactly what he was doing when he posted a cartoon video depicting him murdering Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.)

On Wednesday night, David Gosar was asked by MSNBC host Joy Reid about his brother's claim that the cartoon wasn't intended to be threatening.

"Given Paul's track record, if he tells you it's stopped raining outside, grab your umbrella. He's just an inveterate liar," David Gosar responded, hours after Gosar was censured and stripped of his committee assignments by the House of Representatives.

"Of course he meant this," David Gosar added. "They cooked this up with the intention of getting attention — raising funds — like they always do. These House trolls, they all have to one-up each other. So he knew this was going to be controversial, and he was heavily involved in it. What a lightweight move to blame it on your staff, seriously. He knew what was going to happen. It was intended to raise funds. It wasn't any joke."

Reid responded by saying, "They use this as a grift, but they also mean the violence."

Shortly after the House vote to censure Gosar, the congressman retweeted the violent cartoon video.
