The marriage and family therapist believes President Barack Obama ordered the Sandy Hook massacre to implement psychological evaluations for gun owners, just as he believes all terrorist attacks have been carried out by government agents to strip Americans of their liberties.
The married father of five dares Obama to place him on the “White House kill list” in one 34-minute video, which outlines 25 alleged crimes committed by the president that should result in his impeachment or conviction for treason.
“Mr. Obama, here is the bottom line,” VanDerBeek says in the video. “You and I are not compatible to live under the same government. It is clear that your mission is to destroy the United States constitutional government. My mission is therefore to emasculate your presidency. You will not retire in luxury, Mr. Obama. You will lose everything that you’ve stolen and you will spend the rest of your life in jail, so enjoy your million-dollar vacations now, because your current lifestyle will come to an abrupt end.”
VanDerBeek insists he wishes no physical or emotional harm on the president, although he vows to ensure he’s convicted for his allegedly criminal actions.
“I would give my life to save yours, even though even though you would kill me,” the 38-year-old candidate says.
VanDerBeek told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that taxes “create an adversarial relationship between government and people,” and he would instead prefer to see government funded by unspecified state investment.
He told the newspaper he would work to set up a state bank to offer loans to business owners who want to create jobs, and he’d also like Nevada to regain control of its federally owned land to develop natural resources.
“Through the proper partnership between government and private enterprise, you can phase out taxation,” VanDerBeek said. “We need to take back the land a piece at a time.”
He also supports the idea of military action to take over Mexican borderlands, arguing that illegal immigrants are refugees from the country’s drug wars and poverty.
“The bottom line is that if Mexico continues to implode into the U.S. then we will have to do what we did in the past,” VanDerBeek said. “We have to force Mexico to change. We seem to have no problem going to Iraq and forcing them to change. Why can’t we just do the same with Mexico?”
VanDerBeek expresses such outlandish claims that his birther views seem almost quaint.
During his unsuccessful 2012 Senate run, VanDerBeek shows the conservative Reclamation Group his birth certificate and a leather-bound family history written by his mother to claim he’s a sixth-generation Nevadan.
“I don’t have a problem, and I think that’s a good requirement for people to prove their identity,” VanDerBeek told the small gathering. “You know, unfortunately, we have somebody who, as the president, can’t do what I just did – won’t do it – can’t or won’t.”
He also compared himself to serial killer Ted Bundy during the bizarre meeting, which was apparently held in a supply closet.
“In politics, there’s a specific look you have to look, and you have to be a certain way, and when I had long hair and a beard, some people said that I looked like Jesus,” VanDerBeek said. “Other people said I looked like David Koresh, but it wasn’t until I looked like Ted Bundy that they would be comfortable voting for me.”
The candidate was cited by Alex Jones’ conspiracy theory clearinghouse site, InfoWars, when he broke the news last year that the Federal Emergency Management Agency planned an exercise based around a fictional “zombie UFO crash.”
The exercise to test readiness in a mass casualty situation and rope rescue was eventually canceled over claims that it was a waste of money, but VanDerBeek said it raised important questions.
“Do the leaders of our nation believe in UFOs and zombies really?” VanDerBeek said on his gubernatorial campaign website. “If so, what is their proof? They must have proof in order to spend money on drills? If they have proof, they must provide it to the general public? What is the threat? How imminent is it?”
He likes to brag that he’s spent just $650 on his gubernatorial campaign, and he claims that his votes were capped during his Senate race at 49,000 to keep him just below the 5-percent threshold that would permit him a spot in televised debates during future campaigns.
VanDerBeek is now calling on “patriot hackers” to ensure this election’s votes are clean, but he seems to believe he can change the system from outside the political mainstream.
“This isn’t high school,” he said during his March 1 acceptance speech for the Constitution Party nomination. “If you think back to high school, there were always those preppy kids that thought they could run the show, and that’s what mainline Republicans and Democrats remind me of. They remind me of high school preppy kids that thought they were ‘all that.’”
