Fox News still calling Chelsea Manning a man eight months after gender transition
Fox News host Ainsley Earhardt is still referring to Army whistleblower Chelsea Manning as a male eight months after she announced she was transitioning to female.
Following her conviction for violations of the Espionage Act last August, Manning released a statement, saying she was letting the world know “the real me.”
“I am Chelsea Manning. I am a female,” the statement said. “I also request that, starting today, you refer to me by my new name and use the feminine pronoun (except in official mail to the confinement facility).”
But eight months later, Fox News had not gotten the message.
“The U.S. Army Private convicted of leaking classified information is petitioning to change his name,” Earhardt reported on Thursday. “Bradley Edward Manning has formally requested to change his name to Chelsea Elizabeth Manning.”
“Manning declared in August that he wanted to be treated as a woman while incarcerated, and would go to court to obtain hormone treatments,” she added.
Last August, Fox News host Brian Kilmeade told viewers not to be “deceived” by Manning’s desire to be treated as a woman. And the morning show played Aerosmith’s Dude (Looks Like a Lady) to tease a segment about Manning.
