Jay Smooth: Gingrich, Romney fight keeps bloggers employed
Count hip-hop radio host and progressive figure Jay Smooth as a fan of the battle between Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich for the GOP presidential nomination.
In his latest video commentary, Smooth found humor in the former Massachusetts governor's inability to close the deal.
"Mitt Romney is amazing at not winning," he said. "He just keeps letting everybody back in. It's like, have you ever played chess against a small child and you always have checkmate right in front of you but you just keep ignoring it and make horrible moves on purpose to keep the game competitive? That's what Mitt Romney's entire campaign has been like, except that he's trying to win."
Thanks to Romney's fallibility, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is making a comeback -- something that Jay found entirely amusing.
"Mitt Romney has set the stage for Newt Gingrich to rise yet again and work his grumpy-ass magic on the American people," he said. "Newt Gingrich came out in those South Carolina debates just snarling and snapping at everybody. And the audience fell head over heels for that angry man."
Jay added that the head-to-head duel between the two could ultimately help drive the unemployment rate down in a key sector of the U.S. economy: the media.
"The least Romney and Gingrich could do is keep failing at an equal rate and stretch this campaign out as far as possible," he said. "So that they could keep on being job creators for the pajama wearing Cheetos eating backbone of the media economy."
