Miami Democrat Annette Taddeo launches campaign to be Florida’s first Latina governor

MIAMI — After months of open speculation and exploratory meetings around the state, Miami state Sen. Annette Taddeo is making it official: she is running to be Florida’s next governor. Taddeo, 54, filed campaign documents with Florida’s Division of Elections on Monday morning. Her entry shakes up a Democratic field that has been so far dominated by two front-runners — U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist and Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried — as they vie to challenge Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2022. “We need a governor who will actually govern,” Taddeo told the Herald in an interview last week. “We c...

Morning Joe panel issues a warning -- and explains how the GOP could win in 2024 'in a landslide'

A discussion on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on comments made by Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), who said he didn't see Donald Trump successfully winning the 2024 presidential election, led to an agreement by host Joe Scarborough and marketing expert Donny Deutsch that the GOP could reclaim the White House that year -- as long as Trump wasn't the Republican Party candidate.

Speaking with Axios, the Louisana Republican questioned whether Trump could even be the nominee, saying, "President Trump is the first president in the Republican side at least to lose the House, the Senate and the presidency in four years. Elections are about winning."

Florida Republican cites Mike Lindell's 'research' in pitch to audit the 2020 election ballots

According to a report from Newsweek, the leadership of various GOP county committees are attempting to convince Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) to give a thumbs-up to an audit of the 2020 presidential election ballots despite the fact that Donald Trump already claimed over 51 percent of the vote.

Following on the heels of the audit of the votes in Maricopa County in Arizona which, in the end, handed President Joe Biden more votes, Republicans in Florida want an audit of their own.

Moms for Liberty using ‘hate and conspiracy’ to ‘capture’ women for the GOP: report

The right-wing Moms for Liberty group hopes to put at least one person at every school board meeting -- where its members have attracted attention with angry outbursts over coronavirus restrictions and anti-racism lessons -- and Republican activists see them as an important ally.

The recently founded group has tapped into conservative anger over masks and so-called "critical race theory," helping to steer new voters toward GOP candidates and groups -- and they're hoping to keep them there, reported the Washington Post.

Florida Gov. DeSantis vows lawsuit over federal vaccine mandate, hints at state ban on business mandates for workers

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday vowed to sue President Joe Biden’s administration over a mandate on businesses to vaccinate or test workers for COVID-19, but he also suggested the state might need to pass its own law to prevent businesses from imposing their own mandates. “We are going to contest that immediately. We think the state of Florida has standing to do it and we also know businesses that we’re going to work with to contest it,” the Republican governor told reporters in Lee County. “I think the mandate is going lose in court.” Biden last month said he would r...

'Roadkill': Conservative sticks a fork in Mike Pence and Nikki Haley's presidential chances

In his column for the Daily Beast, conservative Matt Lewis wrote the epitaphs for former Vice President Mike Pence and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R), saying they might as well leave the national scene because neither will ever be president unless there is a major sea change among Republican voters in the wake of Donald Trump.

Noting that Pence and Haley have been making prominent appearances in the past two weeks as they set the stage for jumping into the 2024 GOP presidential primary, Lewis said they're wavering on Donald Trump -- at one moment disavowing him, the next embracing Trumpism -- isn't fooling the hardcore GOP voters they would need to be successful.
