Ron DeSantis campaign organizer arrested for actions during Jan. 6 riot

A Florida woman who interned for Sen. Marco Rubio and worked as an organizer for Gov. Ron DeSantis' campaign was taken into custody for Jan.6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Prosecutors say Barbara Balmaseda of Miami Lakes, Florida was captured on CCTV footage "entering the Capital building via the Senate Wing door at approximately 2:16 p.m., just four minutes after rioters initially breached the building," according to a release by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia. "According to the allegations, when Balmaseda entered the building, broken glass was scattered on the ground, and an alarm blared near the doorway.

Ex-Marco Rubio intern charged with rioting on Jan. 6

A Florida GOP strategist and former intern for Sen. Marco Rubio has been arrested and charged with taking part in the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, the Miami New Times reported.

Barbara "Barby" Balmaseda, 23, was charged with obstructing an official proceeding, knowingly entering and remaining in a restricted building, and engaging in disorderly conduct in a Capitol building with the intent to impede a session of Congress.

A 24-year-old man who is the son of a Florida judge purchased a T-shirt supporting a Greek neo-Nazi political party, according to a Raw Story analysis of data leaked from an online store that distributes racist music.

Stephen Whyte of Bradenton, Fla., confirmed to Raw Story that he purchased a Golden Dawn shirt from the online store Midgård in October 2020. The purchase was made only weeks after a Greek court convicted high-ranking members of the neo-Nazi party, Golden Dawn, of attempted murder and other crimes.
