Lawyer gives 'three words' that hammer home need to rein in Trump's attacks on courts

In the wake of rising far-right hostility to the courts, possibly fueled by former President Donald Trump's ongoing attacks against judges overseeing his litigation and even their families, an MSNBC panel had some dark fears about where it's all heading.

"The question I ask again, to all the lawyers is, what is it going to take for a judge to finally say, enough, and either level a giant fine against Trump or take the step that is within their power in these circumstances, if he violates a gag order, and toss him in the pokey for some period of time?" asked analyst John Heilemann. "What's it going to take? Are we ever going to see that or not?"

'Ghosts' from Trump's past 'are coming back to haunt him' as lawsuit gets new life: report

A lawsuit that was launched in 2020 against then-President Donald Trump and his administration accusing them of unconstitutionally clearing racial justice protesters at Lafayette Square Park by using chemical irritants, including tear gas, before Trump used the area for a photo op holding a Bible, could come back to haunt the former president.

The lawsuit in question, Buchanan v. Trump, ended up being settled with the government. But damage claims against Trump and other officials present at the square that day, like former Attorney General Bill Barr, still remain, Law&Crime reported. The damage claims were ultimately thrown out over laws that protect federal officials from civil lawsuits.

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson reportedly spoke with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky Thursday about the "vital" need for passage of aid to help with that country's war effort against Russia. He also announced who the managers would be for the impeachment effort against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas — two moves that play to the wishes of both Democrats and Republicans respectively.

The decision by the Tarrant County-based Second Court of Appeals means she is formally acquitted of the felony voting charge. The court said in the decision that there was no evidence Mason knew she was ineligible to vote when she cast her ballot — which is a condition that must be met in order to convict her of illegal voting.
