'We needed to leave Oklahoma': New report shows MAGA abortion laws are displacing doctors

Far-right culture war laws are driving young, educated professionals out of red states in huge numbers, reported The New Republic this week — and abortion restrictions are having a particularly strong effect.

"Republican-dominated states are pushing out young professionals by enacting extremist conservative policies," reported Timothy Noah. "Abortion restrictions are the most sweeping example, but state laws restricting everything from academic tenure to transgender health care to the teaching of 'divisive concepts' about race are making these states uncongenial to knowledge workers."

How Rudy Giuliani’s financial woes have gone from bad to worse

In the past, Rudy Giuliani's allies applauded him for being tough on crime — first as a federal prosecutor for the Southern District of New York, then during his two terms as mayor of New York City. But these days, Giuliani is inundated with legal problems, in addition to being among the many co-defendants in Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis' case against 2024 GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump.

Giuliani has so many legal bills that, according to reports, he hasn't been paying them on time. In September, Robert Costello, one of Giuliani's former lawyers, filed a lawsuit against him and alleged that he was owed $1.36 million in unpaid legal bills. Now, Giuliani is being sued by his accountants for the same reason.

A retired software developer from Houston has bankrolled a conservative group that has become the “nerve center” of the MAGA movement and a election-denying congressional power player.

The Conservative Partnership Institute has become a landing spot for Donald Trump's allies and former staffers, including Mark Meadows, Stephen Miller and attorney Cleta Mitchell, and the recently established nonprofit has been buying up pricey row houses on Capitol Hill and consolidating control over the House Freedom Caucus thanks to a $25 million gift from relatively unknown donor Mike Rydin, reported The Daily Beast.

In a terse note responding to the Federal Election Commission, the old campaign committee for former Rep. Peter King (R-NY) said it intends to keep operating even if the congressman has no intention of again running for office.

Who can defend voting rights? Appeals court ruling looks likely to head to Supreme Court

A federal appeals court in Arkansas ruled on Monday, Nov. 20, 2023, that only the federal government – not private citizens or civil rights groups – could sue to enforce the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

This decision will likely be appealed to the Supreme Court – but if it stands, it could gut individual people’s and civil rights groups’ legal right to fight racial discrimination in voting.

AZ Supreme Court rejects Kari Lake’s latest request — again

Failed Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake had her request to appeal her election lawsuit directly to the Arizona Supreme Court denied Wednesday.
