GOP Senate candidate caught splurging on luxurious out-of-state lifestyle: report

Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK) spent thousands on luxury dining and events with money from donors to his re-election campaign, new reporting revealed.

According to a Saturday article by The Daily Mail, Sullivan has steered campaign cash into pricey out-of-state dining as he closes in on a competitive general election. The Daily Mail reported the splurging after reviewing his Federal Election Commission filings.

Since the start of March, Sullivan's campaign has run up close to $35,000 at restaurants outside of Alaska, according to The Daily Mail. More than $7,000 went to Lucille's Modern Chophouse, a Washington steakhouse. The Daily Mail noted that the chophouse has yet to open. World's wealthiest man launches massive cash attack on vulnerable red state voting system

Trump DOJ showers GOP state with settlements amid Todd Blanche confirmation battle: report

A GOP senator's state landed a "huge" settlement with the Department of Justice as Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche hunts for confirmation votes, per Politico.

According to the reporting by Politico, the DOJ has settled with Alaska, leading to nine-figure payouts, as Blanche is "scrambling" to lock down the vote of Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) to secure his confirmation as Attorney General.

Blanche could lose the AG job if every Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee and at least one Republican vote against him. As he tries to shore up his support, Politico has noted several settlements that the DOJ has touted as "huge" wins for Alaska....

Red state investigating GOP Senator's primary challenger for using his name: report

Dan Sullivan Jr., a former U.S. Forest Service employee and elementary school teacher, is running against incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK).

Alaska Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom (R) wrote in a letter to Sullivan Jr. that the state's Elections Division has to investigate whether he's using his name as an advantage, according to reporting by a local TV station. 'Long shot to plausible': Veteran polling analyst says one Dem candidate changes huge race

A Democratic Party candidate weighing up a run for the Senate could be a "plausible" winner in a particular seat, a veteran pollster has suggested.

Nate Silver believes the Alaska Senate seat could be a much more competitive race with the right Dem candidate in place. Posting to X earlier today (January 7), Silver suggested the odds could tip into the Democratic Party's favour should they confirm former representative Mary Peltola.

It was reported yesterday that Peltola could be moving for a return to the Senate, with two people close to the matter telling Axios an announcement of her intention to run is imminent. Should Peltola confirm her run for the Senate, she would enter what Republican Party rep Lisa Murkowski called a "very, very, very hard race."...

'Don't think that's right': CNN fact-checks GOP rep over false megabill claim

As Alaskan Rep. Nick Begich (R-AK) celebrated the Republican win on the "big beautiful bill" Thursday, a CNN host had questions about Sen. Lisa Murkowski's (R-AK) struggles to accept some of the provisions.

Murkowski acknowledged the bill would "harm Americans" but capitulated after winning "carve-outs" for her state on issues like SNAP benefits and Medicaid, "to protect her constituents from its harshest impacts," according to The New York Times.

“Do I like this bill? No,” Murkowski told NBC News on Wednesday. “But I tried to take care of Alaska’s interests. But I know that in many parts of the country, there are Americans that are not going to be advantaged by this bill.”...
