Hours before Alaska voters head to the polls, President Donald Trump again accused Democrats of hiding Senate candidate Daniel J. Sullivan Jr., going so far as to suggest he has been “kidnapped.”
In a post well after midnight, Trump fumed that having two Dan Sullivans on the ballot could confuse voters and cost incumbent Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan his reelection.
“FAKE ALASKA CANDIDATE DANIAL J. SULLIVAN, JR., IS MISSING IN ACTION! HE HAS TOTALLY DISAPPEARED, GONE! NOBODY HAS BEEN ABLE TO FIND HIM. MAYBE HE HAS BEEN ‘KIDNAPPED’ BY THE CORRUPT DUMOCRAT LAWYERS??? THEY ARE SCARED STIFF OF BEING PROSECUTED FOR ELECTION FRAUD!!! PRESIDENT DJT,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump offered no evidence for his claims.
The other Sullivan, a retired teacher from Petersburg, is running with no party affiliation. The Alaska Supreme Court ruled this summer that he has a right to be on the ballot. The New York Times reported that members of Democrat Mary Peltola’s campaign were involved in recruiting spoiler candidates, which Peltola has denied.
On Sunday, U.S. District Judge Sharon Gleason tossed a Justice Department lawsuit that sought to block Alaska from certifying any result affected by voter confusion. She found the government offered “no workable plan.” The DOJ filed a notice of appeal about an hour later.
