New FBI rules threaten to expose agents to blackmail by foreign spies: ex-official

New FBI rules threaten to expose agents to blackmail by foreign spies: ex-official

Former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe said new rules that would allow hiring agents with a history of prostitution-related criminal charges are "confounding."

During a Friday appearance on CNN, McCabe tried to make sense of the changes. Reporting from the Associated Press said that the FBI is changing how it screens job applicants, with past experiences with prostitution no longer automatically disqualifying for every candidate.

"The reporting is confounding," McCabe said. "It raises the question in your mind, Why would they make this change?"...

Red flags fly as 'very suspicious' move from Todd Blanche has confirmation in doubt

CNN analyst Andrew McCabe on Tuesday pointed out that the Department of Justice never responded to President Donald Trump's IRS lawsuit — and how that could impact Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche's nomination.

The former deputy director of the FBI told CNN anchor Kasie Hunt that, as Blanche's nomination remains in limbo ahead of Thursday's vote, further questions about Trump's former personal attorney have come to light.

"Let's remember, there essentially was never really a true lawsuit here," McCabe said. "The president sued the IRS for $10 billion. The Department of Justice never even answered the complaint. So, there were never two opposing parties. The Justice Department never stood up and defended the United States in the way that it did in every other suit brought by the same leak from the same person."...

Ex-FBI director flags 'odd' details as first images emerge of Nancy Guthrie's kidnapper

A former top FBI official flagged unusual details in images and video released Tuesday in the disappearance of "Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie's 84-year-old mother.

Andrew McCabe, former FBI deputy director, told CNN that the way the armed suspect moved in the footage captured on a home security device outside Nancy Guthrie's Arizona home appears to show him "not moving with purpose" and handling a handgun in an unusual way.

"Yeah, it's a remarkable series of images. The still images are much better than I expected," McCabe said. "There's a lot of detail in the images of the clothing and the gloves and all this stuff that by themselves would not mean much. But when you put them all together might very well inspire someone who actually knows this person to say 'hey, I know who that is.' This is not, in my opinion, this is not someone, first of all who was ever trained to carry a gun." ...

Trump move is admission that top aides ‘have created a disaster’ in MN: Ex-FBI director

A former FBI director said Monday that President Donald Trump has realized he has a problem as criticism grows over the fatal shooting of intensive care nurse Alex Pretti by federal agents in Minneapolis.

Andrew McCabe told CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer that Trump's announcement that he's sending his designated "border czar" Tom Homan to oversee the ongoing immigration crackdown in Minnesota is a sign that he's growing frustrated and suggested he could be losing confidence with federal officials Homeland Security Kristi Noem and Border Patrol Chief Greg Bovino.

"And he should lose confidence in those leaders," McCabe said. "They have created, essentially a disaster for him. They've victimized the citizens of Minneapolis. They have absolutely lost any semblance of trust that they had with the general public. And with this, with the state and local law enforcement community. So I'm not sure that the leadership team that's on the ground in Minneapolis for the feds is even capable of righting the ship and you know, turning this thing around. So they definitely need someone else who's going to be able to influence the situation and speak on their behalf."...

Ex-FBI official shares what's likely — and 'unlikely' — to come in Trump's D.C. case

A former FBI official outlined what he expects will — and won't — come now after former President Donald Trump entered a not-guilty plea Tuesday in his trimmed-down Washington D.C. election subversion case.

Last month, Smith tweaked the charges to remove references that Trump tried to order the Justice Department to carry out corrupt acts to obstruct the election. The references couldn't be proven under the Supreme Court's ruling because they rely on evidence that is immune from review.

Judge Tanya Chutkan is tasked with deciding how to proceed with Trump's criminal case over his role in trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election. This includes scheduling, determining which witnesses can be called, and whether prosecutors can take Trump to trial, according to CNN....
