Another trove of new photos obtained from Jeffrey Epstein's estate stunned the internet on Thursday.

House Oversight Democrats released more than four dozen new photos of the late sex offender and his associates, including Bill Gates, Noam Chomsky and New York Times columnist David Brooks, along with cryptic close-up shots of a female body and photos of various documents.

The revelation forced The Times to issue a statement explaining why one of the newspaper's columnists appeared in the images....

David Brooks wrote a column today that was so stupid that I think it can actually be considered an own goal, where he literally---no joke---argues that because his own experiences with marijuana smoking suggested to him that it's not the best use of your time, other people should go to jail and have their lives ruined over it.

[rebelmouse-image 24749148 original_size="849x565" expand=1]I already took a small swipe at this piece by David Brooks, but I thought it deserved a longer examination, because it fits into the millenia-old tradition of sex panics inspired by new technology. Until I heard a lecture about it at the (where else?) Sex Tech conference, I had never realized how much a sex panic inevitably follows the development of a new technology, at least one that broadens people's horizons through geography, art, or communication. It's also funny to me how people forget so easily. Take this line, for instance:

David Brooks was groped by a Republican senator for the entirety of a dinner, but doesn't feel like he should share who it was, because...of. Yes.

I don't know what's more impressive: that it took two of David Brooks' newer, awesomer conservatives to write this Weekly Standard piece about McCain selling his agenda of tax cuts and nothing but as putting money in the pockets of average Americans, or the fact that they managed to stumble upon this heretofore entirely unknown selling point about tax cuts.
