Update: Now Ace of Spades is calling me "hysterical" for noticing that what you see below you is a bona fide rape joke---he's denying that there's a connection between forcing someone to have sex and rape (which really does call into question his basic intelligence). Wingnuts are not known for backing down when they're wrong, of course, but instead turning to absurd and increasingly incoherent defenses.  Instead of continuing to argue with morons, I decided to join in with Atrios. The best response to this is redouble our support for Warren. They're only responding to her with vicious sexism because she kicks ass.

A couple weeks back, assholes throughout the conservative blog world were touting unseasonably cool weather in the Midwest as proof that Al Gore copulates with rhinos.

People of a certain blog-reading vintage will remember the good old days of Tom Maguire, proprietor of Just One Minute. He (along with folks like "libertarian" Glenn Reynolds) was promoted as a "reasonable" conservative with whom efforts should be made to reach out; this open letter from Crooked Timber is indicative of the efforts of which Maguire was thought worthy. I was never smitten with such love for him. The more wrong he is, the more snide he gets - it's like Protein Wisdom, but without the same desperate need to prove that his penis is the Nietzschean ubermensch. Over the years, this has led to a few interactions in which Maguire uses his acceptance as a "reasonable" conservative to attempt to halt criticism of himself. After all, if even such wild-eyed liberals as that one guy and someone else who writes for TNR think he's reasonable, you must Che Guevara!

I swear to God, whoever taught Glenn Reynolds words beyond "heh" and "indeed" should be tried for crimes against those of us with functional brains.

Glenn Reynolds actually finds a school shooting where more guns in school wouldn't help. Two things about me: first, I believe that people do have the individual right to keep and bear arms. Second, I think the idea of having armed teachers in schools is right up there with the idea of having No Red Light Tuesdays in downtown Manhattan.
