'This guy!' Ex-GOP lawmaker rips Ken Paxton for biting the hand that 'invented him'

A former House Republican leader tore into Texas Senate nominee Ken Paxton for turning on the president he said created him.

Former Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) made the remarks on CNN Wednesday after Kasie Hunt revisited President Donald Trump mocking Paxton at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas earlier this month. The New York Times has since obtained leaked audio in which Paxton suggests the convention hurt his campaign.

"To be honest with you, the numbers, when we did that convention, we dropped our numbers," Paxton said in the recording when asked whether Trump was a drag on the race. "Right now, yeah, not good."...

MAGA pollster warns Republicans sleeping as red states slip from their grasp

A MAGA pollster who called President Donald Trump's last two White House wins warned Republicans are sleeping on red states now slipping toward Democrats.

In a Wednesday episode of Bulwark Takes, Rich Baris laid out the case during an interview with former GOP operative Tim Miller. Baris, the director of Big Data Poll, argued that the party is coasting on Trump's 2024 margins in states he won't be on the ballot to defend.

"Republicans are going to run out of a coalition soon if they don't build on what he started to build in '24," Baris said. He pointed to a cluster of seats that the GOP treats as locked down. The Republicans' assumption is "hubris," Baris said....

Trump snubs GOP leaders as he announces campaign tour: 'Please don't ask me to come'

President Donald Trump revealed he'll go on a campaign tour to boost Republicans in vulnerable seats but told GOP leaders he won't stump for them.

During a Wednesday Rose Garden Dinner speech, Trump said that he was going to spend thirty days on the road campaigning for Republicans who could use his support, but pointing to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), he said he was not going to show up for candidates like him.

"I'm going to take the final thirty days or maybe a little bit more than that" for the tour, Trump said. "Because it's all about 35 races, but some of you guys are leading by so much. Please don't make me go to your area."...

James Carville predicts next GOP candidate turns on Trump from surprising direction

Veteran political strategist James Carville predicted that the next GOP primary front-runners will attack President Donald Trump from an unexpected direction.

In a clip from the Politics War Room podcast, a viewer asked Carville if the GOP will "return to normal" by nominating candidates like Jeb Bush or Nikki Haley in the 2028 presidential election, which will decide Trump's successor. Carville and co-host Al Hunt doubted that future successful GOP presidential candidates will come from the center-right like Bush or Haley, however.

"A candidate, or more than one, is going to run for the Republican nominee and attack Trump on the basis that he lost connection with MAGA," Carville predicted. "He wasn't MAGA enough."...

Steve Bannon makes a staggering prediction about the midterms

With a few months left before the November midterms, a former Trump White House insider predicted Republicans will lose the Senate.

Steve Bannon, Trump's former chief White House strategist, in the latest episode of his podcast, "War Room," said, "You're going to lose the Senate in the fall anyway," speaking to Republicans.

Bannon blasted Republicans for losing sight of working-class voters, who are feeling "crushed," he said....
