Nazi-saluting candidate decamps for Illinois governor race after failed congressional bids

A candidate who keeps adding a Nazi salute to his ballot name and losing is once again running for office.

Richard Mayers filed to run for Illinois governor and asked that he be listed on the statewide ballots as "Richard Benedict (Sieg Heil) Mayers" and listed his party as the "Germanic Aryan Supremacy Smokers, Gamblers," according to local reporting.

The Democratic and Republican Parties of Illinois teamed up earlier this week to petition against his nomination, according to the State Journal-Register, an Illinois newspaper....

Hegseth drops war duties to help Trump settle 'petty' score with GOP nemesis: report

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth paused Iran war duties on Monday to take on President Donald Trump's Republican foe, according to reports.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), who has served seven terms in the House of Representatives for Kentucky, has been a frequent critic of Trump. And now, Hegseth has made a rare move to try to influence the upcoming race for the Bluegrass State's primary on Tuesday, reported The Swamp, a Substack from The Daily Beast.

"Lest we forget, there is a war on," The Swamp reported. "That won’t stop the Defense Secretary (who likes to insist he is the War Secretary even though a legal change of title requires a congressional vote) from taking time out from serving his country to help his boss settle his petty grievances."...

GOP hands 'major campaign gift' to Dems as midterms near: analyst

Republicans have handed Democrats a "major campaign gift" ahead of the midterm elections, a columnist said on Monday.

The Guardian's Sidney Blumenthal, former senior adviser to President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, discussed how GOP lawmakers "would rather self-destruct than attempt to rescue themselves." And in doing so, Democrats have made gains with voters that could pay off in the fall.

"The Republicans have no instinct for separation from Trump, no will to stage an intervention, no ability to muster an ultimatum," Blumenthal wrote. "They have been complicit in their captivity, co-conspirators in their demise."...

'The executioner comes': James Carville sees no path for GOP senator who wronged Trump

Political strategist James Carville is already writing off a GOP senator who wronged President Donald Trump and is now campaigning for reelection.

"Magic Seldom happens this close to an election," Carville told The New York Post in a Saturday article while talking about Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA).

Cassidy voted to convict Trump for inciting an insurrection in 2021, and since then, has been on the president's hit list. Last month, Trump called Cassidy "very disloyal" and endorsed Cassidy's challenger, Rep. Julia Letlow (R-LA). Carville signaled that what happened in the Hoosier state could be a bad sign for Cassidy's reelection bid....

Turning Point USA puts John Thune on notice after red state primary purge

Turning Point USA, the conservative political group, is threatening to deploy its campaign tactics against Trump's GOP enemies in other red states after a recent victory.

“[A lot of Republicans] will lose their jobs if they don’t get on board, they don’t listen to their voters, if they don’t do the right thing and fight the manipulation of the Democrats,” Tyler Bowyer, the Chief Operating Officer of TPUSA Action, told the Daily Caller in a Wednesday article.

Bowyer's warning comes after an election on Tuesday where TPUSA Action helped Trump oust five Indiana GOP lawmakers who opposed his demand to redistrict the state, the Caller noted. ...

WSJ scoffs at Trump's Indiana win as 'grim' signs of broader GOP losses mount

WSJ scoffs at Trump's Indiana win as 'grim' signs of broader GOP losses mount

The Wall Street Journal editorial board isn't all that impressed with Trump's successful effort to boot Republican state lawmakers who opposed his redistricting efforts in Indiana.

"The media scorekeepers have declared that President Trump remains the king of the Republican Party, after he helped to oust at least five GOP Indiana Senators, out of seven targeted Tuesday," the WSJ board wrote in a column on Wednesday. "The important question is whether his kingdom will shrink after November."

With the November midterms coming up, Trump's victory in Indiana doesn't change the fact that the House districts there are split 7-2, compared to the 9-0 map Trump wanted in place to give the GOP two seats. ...
