MAGA voters abandoning Trump-endorsed candidate who is too 'establishment': GOP pollster

MAGA voters abandoning Trump-endorsed candidate who is too 'establishment': GOP pollster

Trump voters in Iowa are souring on GOP Senate nominee Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA), seeing her as both too MAGA and too establishment.

The Bulwark's Sarah Longwell laid out the finding in a Tuesday article after holding focus groups last week with Iowans who voted for President Donald Trump in 2024 but now disapprove of him. Longwell argued the reaction points to a deeper brand problem for Republicans in a state Trump never came within 8 points of losing.

The Senate race there has tightened. Of the 10 polls taken since September 1 and tracked in The New York Times' aggregator, Democrat Josh Turek led in four, Hinson led in five and one was tied....

MAGA candidate busted living in another state — by his own fitness app

MAGA candidate busted living in another state — by his own fitness app

Iowa Republican gubernatorial candidate Zach Lahn appears to have been caught by his own workout tracker, which showed him biking around Kansas long after he claimed to have made Iowa his permanent home.

Lahn, facing a tough battle against Democratic state auditor Rob Sand, has spent months pushing back on accusations that he's only a part-time Iowa resident since launching his campaign, insisting he moved from Kansas back to his home state in 2023 and has voted there since 2024. But according to The Daily Beast, fitness app Strava told a different story: a user account under his name logged four bike rides in Kansas between March and May 2025, months before he officially entered the governor's race that November.

Each ride traced back to the same starting and ending point: the Lahn family's $2 million property in Kechi, a small city just outside Wichita and hundreds of miles from the governor's residence in Des Moines. It was a short list of activity, just four rides total, the longest barely stretching past 12 miles, and none of them logged anywhere within Iowa's borders. Shortly after reporters identified the account, it vanished from the platform entirely....

Key midterm Republican rocked by ethics complaint as she slips behind Dem in polling

Key midterm Republican rocked by ethics complaint as she slips behind Dem in polling

Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA) faces an ethics complaint over her husband's role at an insurance lobbying group, as a new poll showed her trailing her Democratic Senate rival.

Brian Lemek, executive director of the watchdog group Defend The Vote, asked the House Office of Congressional Conduct to investigate Hinson in a complaint filed this month, Iowa Starting Line reported.

The office is an independent, nonpartisan body that reviews misconduct claims against House members and can refer cases to the House Ethics Committee, according to its website. The complaint points out that Hinson herself sits on that committee....

Ridicule as MAGA campaign rally flops in battleground state: 'Oof that's rough'

Ridicule as MAGA campaign rally flops in battleground state: 'Oof that's rough'

Vice President JD Vance tried to rally voters to support a MAGA candidate in a battleground state but attracted only a small crowd.

On Friday, Vance went to Council Bluffs, Iowa, to stump for GOP gubernatorial nominee Zach Lahn, but he was met with an underwhelming crowd, leading to ridicule online.

A picture by a Reuters photographer revealed the sparse crowd that took up only a small square in the middle of a gymnasium, with a more bunched group standing behind Vance for the background of photos. Journalist Aaron Rupar mockingly described the photo as "JD Vance speaks to dozens of people today in Iowa."...

WSJ warns 'frustration' rules Trump country after president left voters 'so angry'

A Wall Street Journal piece is warning that GOP candidates are "running scared" from President Donald Trump as voter frustration grows in Iowa.

A Thursday opinion piece published by The Journal highlighted the growing frustration among Iowa voters, which it tied to the hits to farmers caused by tariffs and the war in Iran, and how it's causing GOP candidates to create some separation with Trump.

"So many people are just so angry," Terry Arbogast, an Iowa nurse, told The Journal. "Things are hitting us more negatively," Dave Struthers, an Iowa farmer, added. ...

Fed-up Trump voters lament they 'have no more to give' in threat to flip red state

Iowa could be crucial for Democrats taking control of the House with Iowa's key third district race, according to a CNN report on Thursday.

Voters in the Hawkeye State told CNN's John King that with 82 days until the midterms, some Trump voters were considering giving Democratic candidates a chance. Trump won Iowa by 13 points in 2024, carrying 94 of the state's 99 counties.

Lindsey Murray, who was born in China and adopted by a family in Kansas City, attended college in Iowa and later returned to the state, where she opened a bookstore and started a family. Murray thinks Democrats could have a chance to flip red seats blue....
