New York (AFP) - Fox News has warned Tucker Carlson, who was ousted in April from a primetime hosting slot on the right-wing station, that his new show on Twitter violates the terms of his contract, US media reported Monday. The cease-and-desist letter, reported by Axios and The New York Times, says that Carlson is bound by an exclusive contract until 2025, despite his departure from the Fox News airwaves on April 24. Carlson's lawyer, Harmeet Dhillon, reacted to the reports on Twitter by saying that his "friend and client" would "not be silenced -- by the far left or by Fox News."  When conta......

Los Angeles (AFP) - Television and film writers, on strike over the "existential crisis" of a Hollywood dream factory that mistreats the source of its stories, are fed up with seeing their profession become more precarious in the age of streaming. "What the studios are trying to do is basically turn our work into gig work, and make it impossible for writers to have a career," said Sarah Fischer, on the picket line Wednesday outside major studio Warner Bros. After 10 years working as an assistant on major series such as Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," the 30-year-old scribe was only recently......

In broadcast after broadcast, the 53-year-old appeals to viewers' outrage and plays on their fears, propelling his show to the heights of cable TV, making him millions of dollars, and ......

Washington (AFP) - Activists opposed to the death penalty in the United States on Thursday cried foul after reporters were not invited to witness the execution in Texas of a convicted murderer, as has been customary for decades. Quintin Jones, a 41-year-old African-American man sentenced to death for the 1999 murder of his great-aunt, was executed by lethal injection in Huntsville on Wednesday -- the US state's first execution of 2021. Prison authorities apologized for the failure to include reporters, calling it a "critical error" and blaming a "miscommunication" between officials.  "There wa......
