Meghan McCain loses it over indiscretions of fictional character on White Lotus

Meghan McCain continued her war of words Thursday with actor Carrie Coon, who plays "Laurie" in Season Three of HBO Max's hit series The White Lotus.

Coon told The Hollywood Reporter that McCain must have felt "gratified" at seeing a conservative character on the show — a woman who lives in Austin, Texas named "Kate" played by actor Leslie Bibb.

In Episode Three, "Kate" reveals to her friends, "much to their amazement, that she voted for Donald Trump in the recent U.S. election."

Coon told The Hollywood Reporter that the "Trump" twist was part of a larger story line about transgenderism that was cut after Trump's November victory.

Coon said that writer and director Mike White "had intended for Coon’s character to have a more extensive backstory before Trump’s executive orders targeting transgender, nonbinary and intersex Americans made the plot line appear too fleeting."

"I do think people like Meghan McCain and her community are really gratified to see a conservative person on television. I have conservative people in my life who reached out to me to say that was an awesome conversation, because I don’t think it vilifies Kate," Coon said in reference to Kate's suggesting that she voted for Donald Trump.

McCain posted to X, "Yes Carrie, I am 'gratified' that the conservative character represented on White Lotus is the responsible, family-oriented one not making a fool of herself. Unlike the progressive liberal you're representing who is sleeping with hotel staff and showing her t--- to everyone."

The spat has been raging since March when McCain thanked President Donald Trump for supporting cancer treatments during his State of the Union address.

McCain posted on social media, "This is the first time I can remember crying during a state of the union. Thank you President Trump. This is so beautiful. Anyone who has been impacted by brain cancer knows how special this is."

Coon commented under the post, "Who's gonna tell her?" in reference to McCain's father, the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), who was no fan of Trump and who died of brain cancer in 2018.

Meghan McCain responded with a meme of the conservative "Kate" giving a smirk.

McCain posted that she couldn’t decide if she should "still watch White Lotus tonight since one of the stars decided to tweet some nasty c--p at me.”

But fellow conservative Megyn Kelly told McCain, “Watch it anyway. Virtually every star in every movie and TV show hates conservatives, who could watch nothing if the prerequisite were: the ppl on screen could possibly like me or be like me.”

Meghan McCain called out for blocking trolls — after praising Trump era of anti-censorship

Meghan McCain was called out on X for limiting "who can reply" to her tweets after posting praise for the Trump era of "anti-censorship."

Users on the social media site criticized the conservative pundit's "hypocrisy," with musician Rourke writing, "So much for 'radically free speech'. It took only four minutes to show ur hypocrisy."

"Meghan McCain: YAY RADICAL FREE SPEECH! Also Meghan McCain: shuts off replies," chimed in @emisback717 on X.

"Meghan McCain is such a big proponent of free speech, than why does she ONLY let blue check accounts post replies to her. She’s a fraud," added @daynahmk on X.

The controversy began Tuesday afternoon when McCain admonished trolls who she said were "mad" she didn't have cancer.

"I've decided to limit who can reply to my tweets to verified accounts because quite frankly too many of you are emotionally unstable and have been messaging me you're mad my breast mass wasn't cancerous because I criticized Meghan Markle's cooking teaser. New year, new rules," she wrote.

An hour earlier, following President-elect Donald Trump's rambling Palm Beach news conference, McCain wrote, "One of the things I am really going to enjoy about this new Trump era is it is actually, authentically going to be a time of radical free speech and anti censorship. All the former gate keepers and overlords of what can and cannot be said are finally neutered of their power."

Earlier Tuesday, Trump praised Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg for announcing that Facebook would stop its practice of fact-checking posts, a move seen as a nod to the incoming Trump administration. Conservatives have long criticized Facebook for "censoring" posts, though Meta is a private company, not a government-run entity.

Meta owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.

"They have come a long way," Trump said of the social media company.

"Trump then replied 'probably' when asked if the move is CEO Mark Zuckerberg directly responding to threats the president-elect has made against him," The Hill reported.

Meta's change in policy is a far cry from four years ago when the company shut down Trump's account for inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol riots. Facebook later reinstated Trump, who went on to found his own social media platform, TruthSocial.

Meghan McCain has criticized Trump in the past for making disparaging remarks about her late father, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ).

'Utterly tone deaf': Meghan McCain slams ex-royal Meghan Markle for Netflix trailer

Meghan McCain is slamming Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, for releasing the "highly curated, produced and out of touch" trailer to her new Netflix show during a time of turmoil.

Markle and husband Prince Harry, who famously quit British royal duties to live in the United States, have a $100 million deal with Netflix to produce programs through their company, Archwell Productions. Their current offering, called simply "Polo," received poor reviews and was dubbed "unintentionally hilarious" by the UK's The Guardian.

The aspirational show, called "With Love, Meghan," is set to be released Jan. 15.

According to Forbes, "The nearly two-minute-long trailer released by Netflix on Thursday shows Markle wandering the rows of a meticulously kept garden, choosing fresh flowers, harvesting honey, kneading homemade bread and working in the kitchen with a lineup of famous friends."

McCain posted to X on Friday:

"I was originally a Meghan Markle supporter, I thought she was cool, stylish and refreshing. Like the rest of the world my opinion changed when she disrespected the royal family. Now that she wants to be American again instead of British aristocracy what she seems to forget is Americans want real, raw, uncensored. All of this even in the trailer is highly curated, produced and out of touch. There have been 2 terror attacks in 2 days, major wars raging and Americans can’t pay for groceries. We are a country in rage, uncertainty and intensity right now. This concept is ill advised. I would have told her to do a show helping bring fresh food to food deserts in low income neighborhoods. Do something to help people instead of your ego. This is why the world doesn’t like you, nothing else. Just completely and utterly tone deaf to the moment."

The "lifestyle series" was first announced by Netflix in April. It followed the launch of Markle's lifestyle brand called "American Riviera Orchard," which, according to Forbes, "has yet to produce any content or products."

'Bizarre': Kellyanne Conway reportedly confronted a 'shaken' Meghan McCain over old grudge

Kellyanne Conway, the former senior counselor and current confidante to Donald Trump, confronted fellow conservative Meghan McCain over comments McCain made about Conway's marriage on The View, according to a Saturday report.

Conway, who is now divorced from the anti-Trump conservative attorney George Conway, was appearing at the same event alongside McCain, who was once a host on The View and is now a podcaster. It was like a scene from "Real Housewives," according to the Daily Beast.

"Top Donald Trump confidante Kellyanne Conway confronted fellow conservative Meghan McCain backstage at a women’s summit, witnesses tell the Daily Beast," the outlet reported over the weekend.

The report says the "tête-à-tête was over a grudge Conway has held for many years against McCain, for describing her and her then-husband George Conway as 'gross' during TV appearances on The View and Watch What Happens Live."

It continues:

"Conway confronted McCain after the two appeared together on a panel at The Washington Post’s post-election Global Women’s Summit. The event was organized by Tina Brown, the founder of the Daily Beast. After the on-stage panel discussion about the effect of the election on women ended, Conway confronted McCain in the green room just off stage in a scene 'like something from the Real Housewives,' an eyewitness told the Beast."

Conway, who has remained close to Trump despite her ex-husband and daughter being critical of the Republican former and incoming President, reportedly said that she calmly addressed the issue with McCain.

"I waited until the cameras and microphones were off to privately and calmly address the very public insults she has directed at my family," Conway reportedly told the Beast. "She may wish to outrun her recent past as a years-long resident Mean Girl on The View and Bravo, where her mouth was a spigot of vile and bile hurled toward people and topics she does not know, including my marriage and children, and casually lying about silly things like me calling her (I don’t have her number).”

As for McCain, who has criticized and defended Trump depending on the situation, she was reportedly "shaken" from the encounter.

"It was a bizarre experience and certainly not what I expected when I accepted an invitation to speak at an event hosted by the Washington Post and Tina Brown," she told the outlet. "The only reason why their marriage was ever a hot topic was because they were constantly airing their dirty laundry to America.”

'Could backfire': Meghan McCain suggests controversial Trump rally could cost him election

Meghan McCain on Sunday said that Donald Trump's controversial rally at Madison Square Garden could "backfire" against him.

Trumpspoke in New York at an event many say was planned to mirror an infamous gathering of Nazis in the 1930s. Even some of Trump's top allies have condemned one "racist comment" from the massive event.

Meghan McCain, the political commentator and daughter of legendary Republican lawmaker John McCain, supports Trump in the election but is worried that the rhetoric at the rally could hurt him nine days from Election Day.

Meghan McCain, who recently made a threat against Democrats that ultimately backfired, took to social media to issue a warning about the event.

"I actually think this rally could backfire. How is this winning over moderates and independents exactly?" she asked. "This is maga on steroids."

She then added, "It’s a pretty significant and inconvenient demographic you actually need to win - and they don’t freebase maga kool aid every morning."

Republicans against Trump responded to the comment, saying, "Totally agree."

Attorney and CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Evan Gold said, "You actually think Americans won't respond positively to a Nazi rally? It's always been about the racism."

"It's never been about any policy other than racism. Trump's campaign is over. This the swan song. Done. Fini," he added.

Meghan McCain's threat to Dems backfires as her dad's biographer issues warning of his own

Meghan McCain recently threatened Democrats by saying she might release what her father, John McCain, really thought about Vice President Kamala Harris. But that threat backfired on Sunday.

Meghan McCain earlier this week said she wants Democratic candidates to stop invoking her late father’s memory on the campaign trail — and fired warning shots on social media that there could be more to come.

“Now, I know democrats want to reinvent history and turn my Dad into any illusion you guys need him to be depending on the political moment you need to bastardize his memory for…But please don’t make me start sharing what I remember him ACTUALLY saying about Kamala Harris….” McCain wrote Friday on social media.

“And consider this my final warning shot, I will start spilling tea,” added Meghan McCain, the daughter of Republican Arizona Sen. John McCain, who died of brain cancer in 2018.

That threat was turned on its head over the weekend.

Democratic strategist Cliff Schecter, who recently published old comments by J.D. Vance saying he wanted Hillary Clinton to beat Trump in 2016, said he had some tea of his own to spill about her.

"I wrote a book about your dad in '08, as I'm sure you know, Meghan. So go ahead and do it, nepo," said Schecter on Sunday. "Then I'll share what your father's advisors [and] others close to him told me he really thought about you."

He then added, "Things I had no reason to publish except to be cruel, but will happily share now in light of what you've become. You go first."

In a separate post on social media Sunday, Schecter said, "Meghan McCain doesn’t just get to threaten Dems [with] her unearned platform."

'Needed some McCain Republicans after all': Meghan McCain mocks Kari Lake’s low polling

Meghan McCain, the former conservative co-host of The View, and daughter of former U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), took aim at Arizona senate hopeful Kari Lake in response to reports that the far-right candidate is polling lower than her Democratic opponent.

HuffPost's Yashar Ali reported via X: "A new Fox News poll reveals that Arizona Democratic Congressman Ruben Gallego is leading Republican Kari Lake by a whopping 15 points. Ruben Gallego: 56% Kari Lake: 41%."

The conservative media commentator replied: "It’s almost like Kari may have needed some McCain republicans after all…"

Lake lost McCain's respect after the senate candidate told supporters of the late John McCain to "get the hell out" of her gubernatorial campaign event in 2022.

When Lake attempted to apologize in February, Meghan McCain replied: "Kari Lake is trying to walk back her continued attacks on my Dad (& family) and all of his loyal supporters after telling them to 'get the hell out'. Guess she realized she can’t become a Senator without us."

The former television show co-host added: "No peace, b—h. We see you for who you are - and are repulsed by it."

Lake took a hit earlier this week when the Arizona Police Association — which "typically supports Republican candidates for elected office" — endorsed Gallego over her.

"The APA does not take our endorsement lightly; we recognize the importance of having a U.S. Senator that can bring people together to improve society for all," the group said in a press release. "We believe Congressman Gallego will be that U.S. Senator."

Meghan McCain says Biden is like her dad was with brain cancer

Sen. John McCain's youngest daughter isn't a brain surgeon, a neurologist, or even a doctor, but she thinks President Joe Biden is showing symptoms that remind her of her father's cancer.

McCain, a far-right partisan, spoke out on her podcast, claiming that watching her father's brain being eaten away by glioblastoma is the same thing she's seeing with Biden.

"I know what cognitive decline looks like," she told listeners, according to the Daily Beast.

"I think any caregiver for an aging parent knows that—and to me, I felt saddened and uncomfortable and then very scared,” watching Biden during the debate, she said.

Biden has said that he was ill the week before the debate when he was supposed to be doing debate prep. He still did not feel great during the debate and confessed he saw a doctor afterward.

Still, in the 14 days since the debate, top Democrats have pressed for the president to leave the 2024 race and hand the reins over to another candidate who could mount and execute a winning national campaign in four months.

The symptoms of the brain cancer McCain's father had include headaches, vomiting, and seizures, explained the Glioblastoma Research Organization.

Another common symptom is epilepsy. A neurologist said in his report on Biden that he didn't have any symptoms similar to that.

Other symptoms include things like memory loss, confusion, personality changes, difficulty concentrating, hemiparesis, and aphasia. While Biden has a stutter, he can still speak, and one side of his body doesn't appear to have stopped working.

Biden watched his eldest son, Beau, fight and succumb to the same glioblastoma that killed McCain three years later.

The Biden family has long held a relationship with McCain and his family. During an appearance on "The View" when McCain was a co-host, Biden spoke with fondness about the senator, who was in the final stages of the disease at the time. Meghan became emotional, and Biden quickly consoled her with a tight hug and held her hand as she cried.

"Her dad goes after me hammer and tongs," Biden said with a big smile. "We were like two brothers who somehow were raised by different fathers or something because of our points of view. But I know, and I mean this sincerely, her dad got mad at me. He told me I should get the hell off the ticket. And you remember what I said? And I mean this sincerely: I know that if I picked up the phone tonight and called John McCain and said, 'John, I'm at Second and Vine in Oshkosh, and I need your help. Come.' He would, and I would for him, too."

Biden delivered words at the elder McCain's funeral.

'I value your family': Kari Lake grovels for forgiveness after Meghan McCain stomped her

Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake is still in the doghouse as far as conservative commentator Meghan McCain is concerned, after everything Lake said to attack her father and her family. Earlier this week she took to X to make it clear there would be "no peace" between the two of them and that "she can't become a Senator without us."

In a response post on Wednesday, Lake, a hard Trump loyalist, tried again, groveling for forgiveness and begging McCain to find common ground with her.

"As mothers, (both with two kiddos) I’m know we both agree that our children’s future is too important to let it slip away over past grudges or hurt feelings," wrote Lake. "That’s why I’m working hard to unite Republicans, Independents, Democrats — ALL Americans. We are facing huge challenges and it’s going to take ‘all hands on deck’ to pull things back from the brink."

"My dad passed away from cancer, too," she continued. "I trust and believe that if our fathers were still with us they would do everything they could to save this Republic. Our movement to save Arizona & America is growing, and it’s Mama Bears like us who are leading the charge — ALL Moms want the same thing: to leave our children a better America than the one we had. It’s as simple as that. I want to make Senator McCain and Larry Lake proud."

Lake concluded by saying, "I value you. I value your family," and begged her to let her "buy you a beer, a coffee or lunch and pick your brain about how we can work together to strengthen our state."

It's a hard turn from two years ago, when Lake, then running for governor, proclaimed that the McCains and anyone who supported them could "get the hell out" of the GOP, and echoed Trump's remarks calling the late Sen. John McCain a "loser."

Notably, Lake has still not conceded her election loss in that race, although she often tries to deflect when asked in recent interviews who she thinks stole the election and how.

'No child of mine will ever attend': Meghan McCain slammed for attack on 'woke' schools

Meghan McCain recently railed against so-called "woke" universities, and said she will be teaching her children to avoid them as they reach the appropriate age.

McCain, in her most recent article for the Daily Mail, argues against “woke” colleges and universities, calling them “modern academic cesspools” that “no child of mine will ever attend.”

"Piling her rhetorical plate high with conservative red meat, McCain calls Stanford Law students and faculty who recently protested a conservative judge’s speech 'snowflakes'; conflates a CUNY Law graduate’s criticism of the Israeli government with 'antisemitism'; and cites a University of Connecticut course on anti-Black racism among the 'anti-American, anti-free speech, anti-capitalist garbage' plaguing higher education," the Daily Beast wrote in response Saturday.

It continues:

"'When the time comes,' McCain claims, her kids 'may be among those choosing a job over a major.' McCain cites declining college enrollment numbers as proof that millions who share her view aren’t 'buying what they’re selling,' and warns that 'American Universities better recognize that before they fail out'—an invocation of the right’s 'go woke, go broke' threat—perhaps hoping that the next target of conservative boycotts will be the country’s colleges."

The Daily Beast points out the McCain is demonstrating the opposite of her stated values.

"If the object of McCain’s diatribe is to affirm her position as a righteous freethinker opposed to institutions that 'no longer strive to teach students how to think, but what to think,' an odd way to go about it is with a column essentially stating that no one is going to tell McCain’s daughters how to think—except for her," the report states.

McCain added that she will not pay for her kids' colleges.

"College is the last place I would pay for my kids to attend,” McCain writes, according to the Daily Beast's recap. "Most wealthy parents are loath to admit weaponizing their money to manipulatively control their children. Not McCain apparently."
