President Donald Trump must address a challenge with one group of voters, a CNN analyst said Friday.

As midterms approach, Trump needs to focus on independents, the group most divided on the joint U.S.-Israeli war in Iran, political commentator and CNN host Michael Smerconish told anchor Wolf Blitzer.

"I see that largely it's a referendum on the commander in chief," Smerconish said. "Republicans overwhelmingly supportive of the efforts, supportive of the president; Democrats in equal numbers, in opposition. The tie breakers are the independents, and that's why, by a relatively slim margin, I see the war effort as being underwater." ...

CNN host Michael Smerconish had a warning Friday for Republicans focusing on Democrats and their ties to Jeffrey Epstein.

Smerconish revealed that the House Oversight Committee's GOP lawmakers should remember that once the midterms hit and if Republicans lose majority power — which polls have indicated they could — then they should be ready for Democrats to change the direction of the investigation with a deeper look into the late financier and convicted child sex offender's ties to conservative leaders and public figures. He also raised concerns over forcing the Clintons to testify behind closed doors and the ramifications of the move.

"I think that we're in a realm of a very careful balancing now where people's reputations are being tarnished because of association and not necessarily based on conduct," Smerconish said during a conversation with anchor Wolf Blitzer....

When CNN host Michael Smerconish announced his two guests for Saturday, failed Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake and independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., he said fans "won't want to miss" the program. But the online reaction was far from positive.

Smerconish posted on social media on Saturday, saying, "You won't want to miss today's CNN guest lineup!" he also cited Lake and Kennedy as two of the individuals. "Tune in at 9am/4pm Eastern." Nearly every single comment dismissed Smerconish and insulted his chosen guests.

"I watch every Saturday but I’m done," one verified account wrote. "I turned the show off at 9:32am EST today right after [Kennedy] and before [Lake], 2 liars who should not be given a platform to spread more lies. I get that you want to be fair and balanced, but you’ve gone too far."...
