Fox News is creating a forcefield around Trump as indictments pile up: report

Fox News is creating a forcefield around Trump as indictments pile up: report

Donald Trump and his supporters are demanding that House Republicans protect the former president from intensifying prosecutions, and it's clear where that message is being broadcast, the Washington Post reported Monday.

The ex-president and his staunchest supporters have called for House speaker Kevin McCarthy to defund Justice Department investigators and impeach President Joe Biden to thwart the prosecutions, and the Post reported that new polling shows that Fox News and other right-wing media have convinced Republican voters that Trump is innocent.

"The intensifying charges against Trump have led him and his supporters to demand more from the House GOP: They want Biden impeached, more probes of the Biden family’s supposed crimes, Attorney General Merrick Garland held in contempt of Congress and more," wrote Post columnist Greg Sargent, citing new reporting from Punchbowl News. ...

Tennessee florist refuses service to Republican National Committee

A Republican National Convention fundraising event scheduled this weekend could go without flowers after a florist in Nashville, Tennessee, reportedly refused to provide its services over the GOP's gun positions.

The FLWR Shop wrote a letter to the Republican National Committee, saying the shop had received a request to provide floral arrangements for a Nashville fundraising event planned for mid-April. The letter, which was made public on Instagram, indicates that former President Donald Trump and "other prominent members of the Republican party" will be in attendance.

The shop said it declined the opportunity, noting instead that it would use the spotlight to push the GOP on its stance on gun violence. Going even further, the letter encourages fellow small business owners in the area to follow its lead....

Ron DeSantis' aides told to stop Florida Republicans from endorsing Trump: Report

Republican lawmakers in Florida are being approached by Gov. Ron DeSantis's aides in an effort to stop them endorsing Donald Trump for president, according to a report.

DeSantis has instructed his team members to call at least six members of Florida’s congressional delegation in an effort to halt any endorsement, according to an NBC News report. The media outlet cited four anonymous sources close to the six individuals who were called by the DeSantis machine: Reps. Aaron Bean, Vern Buchanan, Kat Cammack, Mario Diaz-Balart, Laurel Lee, and Greg Steube.

One Republican consultant for one of those contacted said that there's "clearly some angst from the DeSantis camp that so many members of the state’s congressional delegation are throwing their support behind Trump.” The consultant noted that Rep. Matt Gaetz and Rep. Byron Donalds have already endorsed Trump for the 2024 spot....

Ex-Puerto Rico mayor pleads guilty to multi-pronged bribery scheme

A former Puerto Rico mayor has pleaded guilty to accepting thousands of dollars in bribes from two companies in exchange for securing municipal contracts, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Reinaldo Vargas-Rodriguez, a member of the New Progressive Party who served as the mayor of Humacao in Puerto Rico, has formally admitted to the bribery scheme, which lasted from January 2021 to July 2021 and involved a construction company and a trash collection company, the prosecutors announced. The New Progressive Party is traditionally considered more conservative than its counterpart, called the Popular Democratic Party.

Vargas-Rodriguez was charged with accepting bribes in early May 2022, when a federal grand jury in San Juan returned an indictment for conspiracy, soliciting bribes, and extortion. Javier García-Pérez, the Mayor of Aguas Buenas, was separately hit with the same charges, according to the authorities. Javier García-Pérez allegedly took in at least $32,000 in cash payments from August 2020 through September 2021 from the owners of the companies....
