'He deserves to pay a price': NYT editors appalled as Trump pardon spree unleashes mayhem

The New York Times editorial board had a damning message on Tuesday for President Donald Trump and his decision to pardon about 1,500 Jan. 6 rioters who have since committed other crimes.

Unlike past presidents who have waited until their final days in office to issue potentially controversial pardons, Trump has done the opposite. And in doing so, he has created a major problem, the Times editorial board argued.

"President Trump has abandoned this approach. His self-serving pardons are so numerous that public attention cannot keep up with them. It is a version of the strategy that his former adviser Steve Bannon has described as 'flood the zone': Do so much so fast that people cannot follow the consequences," The Times editorial board explained. ...

'Judge uncorked a blistering warning' to cop convicted in Jan. 6 riot: report

A judge handing down a sentence to a Chicago cop and his sister after a jury convicted them of four misdemeanors for entering the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot "uncorked an unbridled denunciation" of the events of that deadly day, detailed CBS News correspondent Seth MacFarlane.

Karol Chwiesiuk, 32, who has been on unpaid leave with the Chicago Police Department, and his 30-year-old sister Agnieszka Chwiesiuk, who journeyed with him to D.C. and entered the Capitol, were sentenced by U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes to 90 days of home detention and three years of probation.

Karol, who has said that he has found part-time work as a security officer, will be in a quandary with the force since Reyes also imposed restrictions on possessing any firearms. ...

'He's aging very fast': 'Deeply confused' Trump slammed for blaming Nikki Haley for Jan. 6

'He's aging very fast': 'Deeply confused' Trump slammed for blaming Nikki Haley for Jan. 6

Donald Trump on Friday was skewered online for apparently confusing Nikki Haley and Nancy Pelosi, resulting in the ex-president blaming the former for the events of Jan. 6.

Trump was delivering remarks in Concord, New Hampshire, on Friday, when he said that Haley was "offered 10,000 people" on Jan. 6, and implied that she was involved in the deleting of video evidence. These are common allegations that the former president has previously lobbed at Pelosi and the Jan. 6 subcommittee.

The video quickly went viral, causing people to make fun of Trump and even suggest he has mental health concerns....

'You lied': Trump allies target 'MAGA' Mike Johnson over stalled release of Jan. 6 footage

'You lied': Trump allies target 'MAGA' Mike Johnson over stalled release of Jan. 6 footage

In what appears to be another potential split between Trump surrogates and House Republican leadership, speaker Mike Johnson is getting some pressure to fulfil a promise related to footage of Jan. 6, on the third anniversary of the insurrection.

Johnson previously vowed to trickle-release all Jan. 6 footage, but the progress after the initial release has been stalled, according to Trump co-defendant and former Trump administration official Jeff Clark.

"On this, the third anniversary, of January 6, it would mean a great deal to the American people if [Johnson] made good on his promise and released all of the footage from the Capitol that day," Clark wrote. "We need radical transparency. It's been long enough."...

'Chaos agent' activist filmed January 6 rioters in 'ploy' to egg them on: prosecutors

'Chaos agent' activist filmed January 6 rioters in 'ploy' to egg them on: prosecutors

Federal prosecutors argued at trial that a Utah activist who filmed January 6 rioters was doing so in a "ploy" to spur them on, reported NBC News on Wednesday.

"John Earle Sullivan, also known as 'Jayden X,' is a self-purported activist and journalist on trial in Washington, where he faces a host of charges including felony obstruction of an official proceeding and civil disorder," reported Ryan J. Reilly. "Sullivan, who filmed the shooting death of rioter Ashli Babbitt after she attempted to enter the House Speaker's Lobby through a window broken by the pro-Trump mob, has become a cause célèbre on the right for those seeking to blame 'antifa' or left-wing provocateurs for the violent criminal actions undertaken by hundreds of rioters during the breach of the U.S. Capitol."

In the months after the attack, federal investigators seized $90,000 from Sullivan. He was allegedly selling footage of Babbitt's fatal shooting....

Republican governor candidate gets jail time for role in Jan. 6 riot

A January 6 rioter who ran unsuccessfully for governor of Michigan in 2022 has been sentenced to two months in jail, reported The Daily Beast on Tuesday.

"Ryan Kelley, 42, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count in July after federal prosecutors said he cheered on other rioters, climbed scaffolding, and helped rip down a protective tarp," reported A.J. McDougall. "According to prosecutors, Kelley 'did not directly engage in violence,' but rather 'encouraged, facilitated, and celebrated violence at the Capitol' by shouting and beckoning at the crowd."

According to the report, the judge expressed “some serious concerns” whether Kelley was “truly remorseful.”...
