Let Me Tell You What This Implies

Ross Douthat wrote a very bad post arguing that the Democratic position on choice was one that was "one of the more unyielding positions in contemporary American politics" towards pro-lifers. He then wrote an explanation for his post, detailing how McCain making pointless noises about nominally pro-choice VP running mates that have no shot whatsoever at getting the slot.

Frame-up

This has to be a quick one, since I'm on my way out the door, but I just wanted to note how annoying it is that the media is buying into the frame that the Democratic abortion plank is somehow demonstrating a step backwards on choice. Reduction of the number of abortions, via family planning, is a pro-choice position. As far as I can tell, the new plank is an improvement, as it now calls for abortions to be "safe and legal" and doesn't include the cop-out "rare."

A proud tradition

In all the discussion going into yesterday's primaries/super-delegate bonanza, the discussion about how "what everyone should remember is that Obama is unelectable, because of the defections from the Democratic Party that will take place if he's nominated" everyone conveniently forgot that McCain got the same rap, only more of it. Pam's post reminded me that Clinton supporters aren't the first ones to use the "I'll switch sides" slash-and-burn threat.
