Musk documentary hits ‘political’ problem at major social media platforms: report

The studio behind an upcoming documentary about tech CEO Elon Musk has reportedly been surprised to find the major social media platforms unwilling to sell ads to it.

That’s according to The Hollywood Reporter, which reported Friday that the documentary titled “Musk” from filmmaker Alex Gibney is struggling to gain traction online as YouTube, TikTok, and the Meta-owned Instagram and Facebook have all rejected offers to run the film’s trailer.

X itself has also refused to accept advertising for the film, the report said....

MAGA-friendly WNBA star's TikTok reveals deeper alignment with Trump agenda: report

A WNBA star recently held up by the Trump administration has a MAGA-friendly social media account, according to a new report.

MeidasTouch News reported that the TikTok account of Sophie Cunningham suggests support for Trump's politics when it comes to immigration, national identity, and political expression by athletes. The Trump administration recently used Cunningham's statements against transgender athletes playing in women's sports to advance its own policy agenda.

Cunningham's official TikTok account reposted a video in December by @matrixunni, a creator with MAGA social and cultural commentary, MeidasTouch News reported. In the video, the creator says that immigrants who enter the country illegally should not expect sympathy if immigration enforcement separates their families....

Trump's triumphal arch may be funded by TikTok settlement meant for child victims: report

Funds from a proposed settlement to end a lawsuit against TikTok could go directly towards building Trump's triumphal arch rather than the child victims the lawsuit was meant to protect, according to a new report.

The social media company TikTok expects to pay $400 million to end the 2024 lawsuit, which came after the Department of Justice "alleged that millions of children under the age of 13 were subjected to extensive data collection and excessive content meant for adults" while using the app, ABC News reported on Friday.

However, instead of giving the money from the settlement to those child victims, "the proposed settlement funds are set to directly support Trump's efforts to improve the appearance of the nation's capital," according to ABC. ...

Big Tech and AI lobbying 'skyrockets' under Trump — and experts are sounding the alarm

From Alphabet to X, eight of the largest tech giants spent a record of $71 million combined on U.S. political lobbying in 2025, according to a new report from Issue One, a bipartisan nonprofit working to reduce the influence of money in politics.

“Big Tech is using every tool in the toolbox to gain access and influence in Trump's Washington,” said Michael Beckel, senior research director at Issue One and report co-author.

It’s the latest example of “pay-to-play politics” under President Donald Trump, the report says — highlighting how tech, artificial intelligence (AI) and social media companies spent nearly $330,000 each day Congress was in session in 2025, and came away with a series of wins around industry regulations. ...

'Very Putin-esque': Trump slammed for his newest TikTok action

President Donald Trump once again paused a congressionally authorized ban on TikTok to give his administration more time to find a buyer for the social media platform.

The president announced Thursday morning that he was unilaterally directing his Justice Department not to enforce the bipartisan law banning the Chinese-owned app until it found an American buyer, but Trump has repeatedly delayed enforcement of the law signed by Joe Biden.

"I’ve just signed the Executive Order extending the Deadline for the TikTok closing for 90 days (September 17, 2025)," Trump posted on his Truth Social platform. "Thank you for your attention to this matter!"...

'A possible problem': Trump's favorite law professor shoots a hole in his TikTok proposal

Jonathan Turley, a law professor and Fox News contributor who regularly champions all things Donald Trump wasn't so sure about the president-elect's call for businesses to trust "that there will be no liability" if they thwart the TikTok ban.

Shortly after TikTok pulled the plug on its U.S. operations because it hadn't found a buyer to replace its Chinese-run parent company, Trump asked U.S. providers to defy the ban.

Trump posted to TruthSocial Sunday, "I’m asking companies not to let TikTok stay dark! I will issue an executive order on Monday to extend the period of time before the law’s prohibitions take effect, so that we can make a deal to protect our national security. The order will also confirm that there will be no liability for any company that helped keep TikTok from going dark before my order."...
