Soldier's wife hauled off by ICE during green card appointment: 'Really betrayed'

An 11-year Army soldier said he felt shocked and betrayed after ICE agents stormed into his wife's green card interview and detained her, Newsweek reported on Thursday.

Staff Sergeant Alexis Jaramillo, 43, described the disbelief after his wife, Maisa Lopes Eliaser, 32, was ripped from his side during what he, his wife, their son and translator thought was an adjustment-of-status appointment on July 8 in Montgomery, Alabama, according to Newsweek.

'Shocking': Veterans sound the alarm on 'staggering sum' spent on Trump crackdown

A group of veterans is sounding the alarm on how much President Donald Trump has spent on a Washington, D.C., crackdown.

In a Wednesday piece, the Trump administration's spending to deploy National Guard troops in Washington, D.C., was flagged by Janessa Goldbeck, the CEO of Vet Voice Foundation, a veterans advocacy nonprofit. The Pentagon has already spent more than $700 million to deploy troops in the nation's capital since last August, and their continued deployment is expected to cost another $1.43 billion, Goldbeck wrote, citing estimates from the Pentagon comptroller nominee.

"Two billion dollars is a staggering sum to spend making the exceptional feel routine," Goldbeck wrote. "The people best positioned to see that damage coming are the ones who wore the uniform and meant the oath. That is why we are among the loudest sounding the alarm."...

'What could possibly go wrong?' Trump's new veterans initiative draws swift ridicule

President Donald Trump boasted about a new program to transition veterans into truck driving, prompting the internet to question his remarks.

Trump announced Freedom Haulers, a new initiative to open pathways for military veterans to become commercial truck drivers, during a White House event. Standing next to a large commercial truck, he announced the new plan and claimed it would be a speedy process to replace "unqualified migrant truck drivers."

"Any American who has driven a heavy truck for our military will automatically be eligible for a commercial driver's license, and it's good-paying jobs, too," Trump said. ...

GOP infighting erupts as MAGA Republicans scream at each other behind closed doors

Two MAGA lawmakers got into a heated exchange on Thursday during a closed-door meeting with House Speaker Mike Johnson in the fallout over a bipartisan veterans bill, according to reports.

Rep. Zach Nunn (R-IA) reportedly screamed at Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) and told her not to interrupt him inside the Speaker’s ceremonial office off the House floor just after Luna and Reps. Max Miller (R-OH), Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) and Victoria Spartz (R-IN) voted with Democrats to recommit the bill to committee, Punchbowl News reported.

The move "would’ve let the minority win a major procedural vote," and "GOP leaders were able to flip Spartz — they’re always able to do that — to win the procedural vote, but then they yanked the bill," according to Punchbowl News....

'Victimhood!' GOP lawmaker loses it at disabled veterans in profane tirade

A GOP lawmaker went on a profane Thursday tirade insisting that disability benefits for veterans needed to be cut because they were "encouraging victimhood."

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), a retired Navy SEAL, unloaded on the Veterans of Foreign Wars in a post on X after House Republicans were forced to pull a veterans' benefits bill from the floor Thursday.

The VFW had urged Congress to vote against the bill, helping to sink it....

Trump accused of 'using veterans as a prop' to 'seal' leak in admin: analysis

President Donald Trump has been accused of using former members of the Armed Forces to patch up leaks in his administration, an analyst has claimed.

The Trump administration has initiated deportation proceedings against 34 former military members and arrested 125 others for immigration violations over the past year, reversing Biden-era protections for service members and their families.

Federal data shows immigration authorities also placed 248 relatives of veterans into deportation proceedings after Trump rescinded preferential treatment guidance. Additionally, the administration cut over 12,700 jobs at the Department of Veterans Affairs through mass government layoffs....
