President Donald Trump appeared to have a confused moment while giving a speech on Wednesday, admitting he used to not know what the phrase "by sea" meant, and thought it was actually "by see."
"By sea, by ocean, by water," said Trump. "A lot of people say, 'What do you mean by sea? Is it see? Like vision?' No, it’s sea, SEA."
This remark drew immediate mockery from commenters on social media, many of whom pointed out that when Trump says things like "a lot of people" or "many people" think something, it really just means he used to think it and got corrected.
"If Biden said this exact quote, it would play nonstop on Fox News alongside stories of how feebleminded the president has become," wrote Chase Oliver, the 2024 Libertarian Party nominee for president. "Its amazing what tribalism and partisanship will have you ignore."
"Our president is a corrupt idiot," wrote Melanie D'Arrigo of the Campaign for New York Health and the National Organization for Women.
"Elder abuse is a crime," wrote podcaster Jim Stewartson. "The entire White House staff should be arrested for letting this poor dementia patient do this to himself every day."
"He comes up with ways of being stupid few have ever even considered before," wrote YouTuber Eric Goldman.
