President Donald Trump's deep-state crusade has left post-9/11 security institutions gutted, a damning Senate report has warned.
A new 37-page report from Senate Democrats accuses Trump of weakening intelligence agencies through mass firings, budget cuts, diverting remaining staff to immigration enforcement, and forcing counterterrorism units to focus on "left-wing extremism," MS NOW reported Thursday.
Senate Democrats now fear America will be unprepared to deal with real national security threats and are "far more vulnerable to a potential terrorist attack," the report states.
“Since the first day of his second term, President Trump and his Administration have dismantled critical national security agencies and programs and diverted significant resources and attention away from the fight against terrorism,” the Senate report states.
"The Administration’s actions have left Americans far more vulnerable to a potential terrorist attack, and left law enforcement officers and agents without the tools to protect our nation."
The Trump administration has also been pulling terrorism preparedness grants from states as a way to try to strong-arm them into adopting voting restrictions of the administration's choice, the report notes.
The report also condemns the Trump administration's effort to redefine terrorism.
“The designation of cartels and gangs as foreign terrorist organizations has redefined terrorism and stretched the capacity of the country’s counterterrorism personnel and resources,” the report states.
"The new strategy also completely ignores the threat of white supremacists — despite the most recent attack on the Islamic Center of San Diego carried out by two teenagers who were inspired by hate and referenced the shooter in the Christchurch, New Zealand, mosque attack in 2019."
