An outraged Democratic senator announced Wednesday that he was heading directly to Danbury, Connecticut, after accusing federal immigration agents of targeting parents at school bus stops and deliberately waiting until their children were gone to make arrests.
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) sounded the alarm in a post on X as local reports of increased Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity spread across several Connecticut communities.
“This morning in Danbury, ICE was arresting parents at school bus stops,” Murphy wrote. “But it’s more sinister. ICE waited until the kids were on the bus so when they are dropped off at the end of the day, they are alone, scared to death they can’t find their parents.”
“I’m heading to Danbury,” the senator added. Murphy did not elaborate on what he planned to do after arriving in the city of about 80,000 that sits near the New York state line.
Murphy’s post comes as local news outlets have reported immigration arrests this week in Danbury, Stamford and Bridgeport, prompting alarm among residents and elected officials.
