One Trump voter's recent brush with tragedy perfectly encapsulated the horrors that Donald Trump's immigration agenda has inflicted on immigrants, analysts said Sunday.
Jack Buhring, a truck driver from Ohio who voted for Trump for the first time in 2024, recently struck and killed a 20-year-old Haitian immigrant named Pierre Damas Bel, who leaped out in front of Buhring's truck in an apparent suicide attempt after the Trump administration revoked his Temporary Protected Status, The Atlantic reported. Revoking Bel's TPS status put him on a path to be deported to a country that is currently experiencing a humanitarian crisis. A black ankle monitor that the Department of Homeland Security has been making immigrants wear was found at the scene, according to the report.
The report astounded several of Trump's critics, who shared their reactions on social media.
"This is a gutting piece," Clara Jeffrey, editor-in-chief of Mother Jones, posted on X.
"What have we become?" Bill Prady, a television writer who produced "The Big Bang Theory," posted on X.
"Shaken," Samuel Oakford, senior reporter for The Washington Post's visual forensics desk, posted on X.
"This is really sad, obviously, but also extremely well done. Unreal how much stupid, useless suffering this regime has created," journalist David Roth posted on Bluesky.
"He isn't mentioned, but don't forget about the critical role JD Vance played in this. Blood and multiple ruined lives and families are on his racist hands. And when Trump is gone, he will still be here," Taulby Edmondson, a white nationalist researcher, posted on Bluesky.
