Joe Rogan and his guest spent a chunk of this week’s podcast reading through President Donald Trump’s record-long Truth Social attack on Bill Maher, and they weren’t impressed.
“Things like that letter to Bill Maher are not the best. Like that’s not a good look,” Rogan said on “The Joe Rogan Experience.”
His guest, comedian Colum Tyrrell, went further: “One of the worst things he’s ever done," he said, laughing.
Rogan had brought up the post earlier in the episode, calling it a “breakup letter.” The pair pulled it up on screen and read through it at length, laughing at Trump’s capitalization choices along the way. Trump capitalized words like “Loser,” “Lies” and “Laughing Machine,” the last a jab at what he claimed was a laugh track on Maher’s HBO show.
“This is a guy spiraling,” Tyrrell said while reading. “He’s walking around the room saying this to someone typing it out.”
Trump’s post claimed a CNN poll showed him with 98 to 99% support among Republicans. On the podcast, they noted that Maher’s offense seemed to be saying Trump had lost GOP support.
“I don’t even think what Bill Maher said was that bad,” Rogan told his guest. “I think he gets very upset when people talk about the polls.”
They also wondered how Trump found the time.
“I think the people around him probably just go, he’ll be distracted for a couple of hours. Let him go,” one said.
At another point, the guest argued that a president should hold himself to a higher standard: “I think the guy in charge should be a little bit reserved. I don’t want them writing letters to Bill Maher.”
In his post, Trump called Maher a “COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSER” and claimed Maher had invited himself to the White House. Maher responded on his HBO show Friday, telling Trump, “You call me!”
Rogan, who endorsed Trump in 2024, has grown more critical of the president. Elsewhere in the same episode, he said Trump’s broken promise of “no more war” was the biggest disappointment for his supporters.
