President Donald Trump's sneering comment on Juneteenth — a federal holiday honoring the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans — is haunting him on Labor Day.
The comment — captured in a screenshot and logs of Trump's past social media posts — was hurled back at the White House when it tried to pay homage to American workers.
"This Labor Day, we honor the grit, skill, & spirit of the American worker," the White House stated. "American workers deserve a government that fights for them - the Trump Admin is delivering. To workers across America, thank you."
The responses were seething, and often featured this message from Trump:
"Too many non-working holidays in America. It is costing our Country $BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to keep all of these businesses closed. The workers don’t want it either! Soon we’ll end up having a holiday for every once working day of the year. It must change if we are going to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
Trump did not make the comment recently, as former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene suggested earlier this week, but on June 19, 2025 — Juneteenth.
That did not stop Headquarters, the social media account of former Vice President Kamala Harris' 2024 campaign team, from reminding Americans that he wrote it.
"Trump says Americans have 'too many working holidays' and that people need to work more days to boost his failing economy," Headquarters wrote.
The White House's public statement on Monday was slammed with comments, several including a screenshot of the original post, and similar summaries.
"Labor Day is supposed to honor the working Americans who built this country," wrote conservative commentator Michael Bennett. "Under Trump’s economy...you’ll need two or three jobs just to afford to live."
Quipped singer/songwriter Brad Skistimas, "NOW GET BACK TO WORK."
