Doctor fears Trump 'beyond' cognitive decline as midterms weigh on his psyche

Dr. Vincent Greenwood says President Donald Trump’s behavior may worsen if Republicans lose control of a chamber of Congress next month, according to a Daily Beast newsletter summarizing the outlet’s interview with him.

The newsletter says Greenwood believes a loss would leave Trump feeling threatened, both personally and politically, and make him more defensive. Greenwood argues Trump shows clinical psychopathy, defined by impulsivity, remorselessness, and a hunger to dominate, and calls him a “puppet” to those traits.

The Beast links the warning to recent behavior it describes as erratic, including a threat to destroy a “whole civilization” in Iran and a comment that losing San Diego and Los Angeles would be a “small price to pay.”

Greenwood has not personally examined Trump for psychological disorders. However, his apparent pathological thinking, and where his mental state might be headed, has been heavily speculated on by a number of expert observers.

Earlier this month, Spy magazine founder Kurt Andersen, who has had a running feud with the president going back decades, similarly voiced the belief that Trump's mental state is about to get a lot worse.

"He’s obviously beyond whatever cognitive decline he had and has, and more manifest craziness, I think the kind of elderly kind of as they call it in dementia sundownerism where people who are with dementia late at late in the day like just get angry,” he said.
