'Gift to Trump': Legal expert says Supreme Court decision could 'knock out' Trump verdict

The Supreme Court's recent pro-Donald Trump immunity ruling could "box in" the New York judge overseeing the case in which the former president was convicted of 34 felonies, a legal expert said Thursday.

The Supreme Court ruled that former presidents do enjoy immunity for many of their official acts from when they are in office, prompting a delay in Trump's sentencing after he was convicted in the case about falsifying business records to hide an alleged affair ahead of the election in 2016.

Some members of a panel of Democratic and independent voters on CNN changed their position on whether president Joe Biden should stay in the presidential race after the president's press conference Thursday, saying he assuaged their concerns.

A panel of seven women in Michigan was interviewed just after Biden's press conference, which included a "very telling" component, saying they still support the president over Trump. Two of them initially said that they were unsure if Biden should stay in the race, but after the speech, they changed their tune.

President Joe Biden worked to put fears about his age and fitness to rest with a rousing press conference at the NATO summit, where he demonstrated a commanding grasp of foreign policy issues, took potshots at former President Donald Trump, and reiterated his commitment to remain in the presidential race.

But for the first time, suggested CNN political commentator David Chalian, there seemed to be a slightly different tone about that commitment.

'Ask Trump for his': Joe Biden challenges ex-president to take a neurological exam

When President Biden gave his press conference at the NATO summit on Thursday, he was predictably bombarded with questions about his age, his fitness to carry on the election campaign, and whether he was giving any thought to dropping out of the race — which he again adamantly denied.

When the question came to whether Biden would take a neurological exam, he flipped the script and said he has been more transparent about his own health than his opponent has.

'Not bad': Onlookers declare Biden did well but 'not good enough' in press conference

President Joe Biden sought once again to quell fears about his age and fitness, following the conclusion of the NATO summit, with a lengthy press conference in which he touted his accomplishments and took open questions from the press, at several times fielding questions about whether he really had the ability to campaign for a second term.

Apart from a couple of gaffes, like calling Vice President Kamala Harris "Vice President Trump" in the first answer, Biden largely held it together and gave decisive, clear answers. And he contrasted his own fitness to Trump's, noting he has been in policy meetings and campaign events nonstop for two weeks, while former President Donald Trump is “riding around on his golf cart filling out his scorecard before he hits the ball.”
