'Wow': MSNBC host stunned by legal expert's proposal for Trump Jan. 6 trial strategy

Former Judge J. Michael Luttig caught MSNBC's Ali Velshi by surprise on Sunday morning by stating he thinks Judge Tanya Chutkan would have no problem starting Donald Trump’s trial related to the Jan. 6 insurrection just days before voters go to the polls in November.

Appearing to talk about the Supreme Court's impending ruling on Donald Trump's bid for absolute immunity expected Monday morning, the conservative judge who served on the 4th Circuit United States Court of Appeals after being appointed by President George H. W. Bush, Luttig suggested the former president won't get his wish and that the trial in Chutkan's courtroom will proceed after clearing a few hurdles.

As Luttig told the MSNBC host, while there are political considerations involved in starting a trial that could run through the election, there is no legal reason stopping special counsel Jack Smith from asking for the trial to start as soon as possible -- politics be damned.

"The politics of the moment will all but demand that Jack Smith forgo trial before the election, and until after the election," Luttig told the MSNBC host before adding, "But I would urge Jack Smith, in the strongest possible terms today not to yield to that cynical partisan politics, and to bring this case on for trial even in September or October," at which point Velshi blurted, "Wow,' as Luttig continued, "In the name of, and for the sake of American democracy, the Constitution and rule of law."

"Judge, is there any chance if Jack Smith hears this and takes your guidance on this that Tanya Chutkan will allow it to happen?" Velshi pressed.

"Yes, there is every chance in the world that Judge Chutkan would allow that to happen, Ali," the retired judge replied.

Furious Lindsey Graham flips out on CNN and promises 'retribution' after a Trump win

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) went on an angry rant on CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday morning and stated he was looking forward to going after President Joe Biden and members of his administration if Donald Trump wins re-election in November.

Ostensibly brought on to discuss last Thursday's presidential debate, Graham instead ranted about Joe Biden, accusing him of being "compromised" as host Dana Bash sat there and failed to fact-check him in much the same manner she also failed to fact-check Donald Trump when she was co-moderator on the CNN-hosted debate.

After Graham harshly complained that Bash and her colleagues failed to fact-check Biden during the debate and then predicted the country was going to "have a resetting," she finally interrupted and asked, "I want to get to a couple of important issues sir, but you just warned of retribution?"

"Yeah, I warned that the Pandora's box opened by the Democrats is going to be applied here," he shot back.

"There should be an investigation of [Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro] Mayorkas and Biden for abusing the parole statute that led to the murder of Laken Riley. They let the accused killer out because of lack of capacity, they paroled him illegally. I think the criminality of the Biden border policies should be looked at. We should look at how people lied about the Hunter Biden, the laptop being fake when it was real."

"You had a January 6 committee looking at what happened on January 6," he ranted. "I hope there will be a committee looking at border policies that have led to the rape and murder of lots of Americans; people from 18 to 30 dying by fentanyl poisoning, coming over a broken border. Yeah, I hope that does happen alright!"

Ex-GOP consultant makes case that Dems should 'stop panicking' over Biden performance

Following a debate performance from President Joe Biden that failed to solidify his ability to defeat ex-President Donald Trump in November, several newspapers and Democratic leaders have called on the president to end his re-election bid — but one conservative is shutting those calls down.

Anti-Trump Lincoln Project adviser and former Republican consultant Stuart Stevens, in a Sunday op-ed published by the New York Times, argues, "For all the talk of Mr. Biden’s off night, what is lost is that Mr. Trump missed a great opportunity to reset his candidacy and greatly strengthen his position."

Trump will prep supporters for ‘another violent burst of rage’ if he loses: analyst

According to journalist and political commentator Paul Waldman, a deep dive into Donald Trump's words in Thursday's debate indicates he is still going to prepare his followers to revolt if he loses the presidential election in November.

In his column for MSNBC, Waldman said all the attention being paid to President Joe Biden's difficulties during the debate obscured the evidence that the former president has grown worse when it comes to pushing lies, racism and more deep-seated grievances.

"It was truly a bravura performance of mendacity and deceit," he wrote of Trump. "Reading through the transcript, it becomes clear that there was not a single answer Trump gave that did not include some awful prejudice, a preposterously misleading statement or an outright lie, often more than one."

Using that observation as a jumping-off point, he claimed Biden will continue to take the high road as he goes forward, while Trump will "continue to lie about matters large and small."

Trump's debate answers about the 2020 election that he lost and the Jan. 6 insurrection he incited indicate that he will "... prepare his supporters for another violent burst of rage should he lose this year as well."

"Asked whether he’ll accept the results this year, he said, 'If it’s a fair and legal and good election — absolutely. I would have much rather accepted these but the fraud and everything else was ridiculous,'" the analyst wrote before adding, "To any reasonable observer, that means 'no.' Everyone knows Trump will not accept the results of the election unless he wins."

Summing up, he continued, "This debate proved yet again that no one is quite sure how to deal with Trump’s blizzard of deception: not the news media, not his opponents, and not the voters. He won’t be shamed into telling the truth, his supporters don’t seem to care, and his lies only grow uglier as time goes on. But even if no one can make him stop, the worst thing would be to pretend it doesn’t matter."

'Go away': GOP governor reminded of puppy-killing past after visit to man turning 100

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, a Republican and ally of Donald Trump, was reminded on Saturday of her puppy-killing past when she posted about visiting a man who turned 100 years old.

Noem previously admitted to killing a puppy in a "gravel pit," and then defended her actions by saying any mother on a farm would have done the same because the puppy attacked chickens. She has been haunted by the story ever since it went viral when she wrote about it in her book.
