Ex-GOP voter tells CNN she'd 'rather vote for the corpse of Biden than Trump's lying face'

Despite a dismal debate performance by President Joe Biden, at least one formerly Republican voter recently told CNN she would rather vote for Biden's dead body than for former president Donald Trump.

CNN over the weekend displayed a clip package including voters who were asked about the state of the presidential race after a debate that caused some, including the editorial boards of Raw Story and the New York Times, to call for Biden to withdraw from the race. On Saturday, a major newspaper in a critical swing state put out a piece mirroring the Times, but calling on Trump to bow out for the good of the nation.

Supreme Court 'staged a coup' and will resemble Russian courts if Trump wins: conservative

The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) has grown far too powerful, and could permanently alter the government established by the framers if current trends continue, according to a conservative legal expert.

On Saturday, Norman Ornstein — who is an emeritus scholar at the Koch-funded American Enterprise Institute — offered a frank and stunning condemnation of the Court in a post to X (formerly Twitter). After a wave of controversial rulings in the final week of its 2023-2024 term, Ornstein opined that the Supreme Court is rapidly transforming into courts seen in authoritarian governments seen in other parts of the world.

Mexican woman formerly employed by Trump condemns ex-president's 'Hispanic jobs' comment

Donald Trump on Saturday was called out on his "Hispanic jobs" comments by a Mexican woman who used to work for him.

Trump has recently been in hot water after attempting to woo minority groups by arguing that illegal immigrants are coming to the U.S. and taking "Black jobs" and "Hispanic jobs." His comments left people wondering whether the former president was implying that Black and Hispanic people only work low-end jobs.

'Critical' swing state newspaper urges Trump to leave the race 'to serve his country'

The Philadelphia Inquirer appears to have trolled the New York Times Saturday with the publication of an editorial encouraging Donald Trump to leave the presidential race for the good of the country.

Raw Story's editorial board published a piece encouraging President Joe Biden to leave the race after his disappointing CNN debate performance against Trump, and the New York Times later followed suit with its own call for Biden to drop out. The Times received extensive pushback for publishing that piece, when it didn't publish a similar one calling for Trump to drop out after he was convicted of felonies.

Lindsey Graham finally answers why he hasn't deleted Trump-bashing tweet from 2016

Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican, finally answered a burning question for many who follow United States politics.

Graham ferociously criticized Donald Trump when the now-former president first entered the political scene, but Graham was one of Trump's top defenders once he was elected as president, and has continued to be a staunch ally ever since. But his well-publicized political switch-up also means Graham has been haunted by his Trump-bashing past.

Social media users reacted with jokes, but it was also noted that it was unclear exactly how this happened, and that it could easily have been a coincidence.

NYT reporter puts distance between himself and editorial calling for Biden to step aside

During an appearance on MSNBC on Saturday afternoon, New York Times chief White House correspondent Peter Baker was cornered by host Alex Witt over an editorial published by his paper on Friday that called for President Joe Biden to drop his bid for re-election.

The controversial proposal from the editorial board came less than 24 hours after Biden's poor performance on a CNN stage where he faced Donald Trump, with the editors writing, "the president is engaged in a reckless gamble. There are Democratic leaders better equipped to present clear, compelling and energetic alternatives to a second Trump presidency. There is no reason for the party to risk the stability and security of the country by forcing voters to choose between Mr. Trump’s deficiencies and those of Mr. Biden."

Judge Chutkan will allow the DOJ to put on a 'mini-trial' after immunity ruling: expert

Appearing with her colleague Alex Witt on MSNBC, former prosecutor and host of her own show, Katie Phang made her prediction on how the Supreme Court will rule on Donald Trump's bid for absolute immunity on Monday and how Judge Tanya Chutkan will proceed afterward.

According to Phang, she expects the nation's highest court — which has been dragging its feet on the highly anticipated ruling — will instruct Chutkan to define which acts Trump committed fall under presidential powers and which ones are outside the scope of protection.

Phang suggested Chutkan would jump into the case with both feet immediately after all of the delays.

'"I believe, as do others, that Judge Chutkan will be told she needs to make a determination as to what conduct that is alleged in the indictment is quote 'official acts as president' and what conduct is quote 'unofficial acts.' The unofficial acts do not get the immunity."

"I'm a believer and I've been pushing this idea you will see an evidentiary hearing that Judge Chutkan will do and I think very quickly, she's going to put the pedal to the metal on this," she added.

"And the evidence you'll be hearing will be an opportunity for special counsel Jack Smith to present the entirety of the indictment because I believe the indictment against Donald Trump is all unofficial acts; none of that was kosher, none of it was supposed to happen, it was all illegal."

"You will see special counsel Jack Smith put on what I'm going to call a mini-trial through the course of the evidentiary hearing so Americans can hear what Donald Trump did."

A 'must-watch' wide-open Democratic convention could be a nightmare for Trump: analyst

In the aftermath of President Joe Biden's poor performance on Thursday night when he debated Donald Trump, one Washington Post contributing columnist suggested that, if Biden stepped aside as multiple commentators are urging him to do, it could cause problems for the convicted felon ex-president.

According to longtime political observer Matt Bai, a wide-open Democratic convention scheduled to begin August 19th in Chicago would become must-see TV for Americans who would then be unsure who the Democratic nominee would be — thereby engaging potential voters who planned to sit this election out over dissatisfaction with the choices they've been given.

N.Y. Times facing blowback for calling on Biden to drop out 'and not the convicted felon'

The New York Times editorial board urging President Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 race has prompted a visceral reaction from some of the president's most outspoken supporters on social media.

Following the leading national newspaper of record's stinging editorial, NJ.com's Kevin Manahan assembled tweets from Biden supporters blasting the Times for grading the president on a steep curve while largely giving former President Donald Trump a pass. Manahan noted that progressives "gave the newspaper a social media middle finger and pointed out one-sided coverage that has favored Donald Trump, the first criminally convicted ex-president, who is facing more criminal charges to go along with a long civil rap sheet."
