Young voters voice Trump 'regret': 'Trust in the administration has completely nosedived'
Young voters who voted for President Donald Trump are voicing their "regret," citing how their "trust in the administration has completely nosedived."
“I believe my trust in the administration has completely nosedived because of how he’s mishandled things,” 22-year-old Anthony H., a Republican from Nevada, told NBC News in its Decider Series.
Anthony is among a group of 14 voters under 30 interviewed, saying they regret their decision — pointing to Trump's tariffs, immigration and foreign affairs policies, plus the unreleased Jeffrey Epstein files, as reasons why their support has declined. The group comprised of eight Independents and six Democrats. Nine disapproved of Trump's job so far and five approve of it, The Daily Beast reports.
Another Trump voter, 23-year-old Sean M. from Pennsylvania, who describes himself as an Independent, does not like Trump's aggressive immigration approach.
“I have not been agreeing with just taking a bunch of immigrants and even if they are innocent and throwing them back to God knows where,” Sean said.
“The tariffs have been a little counterintuitive,” Elizabeth M. said. The Arizona 25-year-old says her husband is a car salesman and his work has been affected by the rising cost of automobile parts.
“I believe with the reasoning behind them, I do think that something has to be done to compete with the other countries. I think it just should have been affecting maybe the big businesses versus us as the consumers being affected by it,” she said.
Trump's success among young voters helped credit his win against Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump netted 43% of voters ages 18 to 29 in the 2024 election, a nine-point rise from 2020. He also had 49% of men in that age group, while Harris had 48% of males in that group.
