Mary Trump says her grandfather, Fred Trump Sr., used to show her a picture of a half-naked young woman when she was a child, and that her uncle Donald sometimes joined in.
Mary Trump, a clinical psychologist and longtime critic of the president, shared the story in the latest installment of her “Trump Family Horror” series on her Substack, “The Good in Us.”
She described her grandfather, the president’s father, as a “sociopath” who “was cruel, and he loved humiliating people.” She said he “had his weird, weird obsessions, and he could be inappropriate.”
“When I was a kid, like a young kid, like eight, nine or something, he would bring out his wallet and slide out a wallet size picture and show it to me,” she wrote. “Now, what’s so wrong with that? Well, it actually happened to be a picture of a half naked woman.”
The woman in the photo “could not have been much more than 18 years old,” she wrote, and was “very heavily made up” and “holding up her breasts.”
Mary Trump said she believed her grandfather did it “to kind of get a rise out of me.” At the time, she was his youngest grandchild and his only granddaughter.
“He thought it was really funny that he was showing his granddaughter” the photo, she wrote.
Sometimes the president was there for it.
“Sometimes when he showed this to me, Donald would be around, and he’d say, ‘Hey, Donald, check this out,’” she wrote. “And Donald would stand behind my grandfather, look down at this picture of this poor half naked young woman, and leer and snicker.”
She added that she had no idea “how many people he showed that picture to, thinking he was hysterical.”
Mary Trump has been one of her uncle’s most outspoken critics since the 2020 release of her bestselling memoir, “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man.”
Fred Trump Sr. died in 1999.
