President Donald Trump's nominee for U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Texas, John George Edward Marck, sparked outrage after refusing to answer Senator Chris Coons' (D-DE) question about the 22nd Amendment.
The 22nd Amendment explicitly prohibits any person in the United States from being elected president more than twice.
When asked directly if Trump is eligible to run for a third term, Marck claimed he needed to "review the facts" before making a determination on an unambiguous constitutional matter.
Critics responded with alarm on social media.
Former Representative Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) called it "unreal," on X, while GOP analyst Tara Setmayer deemed it "unequivocally disqualifying," also on X.
"This is really chilling. Like a scene from a dystopian movie, and alarming for anyone who cares about democracy," author Nick Bryant posted.
