Republicans 'sharpening knives' for Vance for his part in midterm wipeout: ex-GOP governor

President Donald Trump won’t be the only one in his administration to be blamed if Republicans suffer a bloodbath on Tuesday as expected. According to former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Vice President JD Vance is also in for a reckoning over his role in the campaign’s final days.

In an interview with Politico Playbook, Christie, a former Republican Governors Association chair, said Vance, who has his eye on a 2028 presidential run, now has a target on his back. Playbook said Christie suggested Republicans are “already sharpening knives.”

“JD Vance needs to own not only his portion of that defeat when it comes on Tuesday,” Christie said. “But more importantly than that, him contributing to the continued rotting of the morality of our party.”

Christie told Politico he’ll be watching for an erosion of support among independents and Hispanic voters as signs of a turning-point election.

“I think we are going to get walloped in the Latino vote, maybe back to you know Romney-era levels,” said Christie, who ran for president in 2016 and 2024 and may run a third time.

He said his “decision-making process will begin after I see what happens on Tuesday.”

As for the results, Christie said all that’s left to “be determined Tuesday night is just how bad the news is.”

“It’s really bad news for my party,” he said.
