Vice President JD Vance has compared himself to Jesus amidst a simmering food feud with a conservative columnist spurred by his fat-shaming burrito-consuming insult.
Earlier in the week, the recently slimmed-down Vance inserted himself into an argument on X between MAGA influencer Matt Walsh and Washington Post conservative Marc Thiessen, siding with Walsh while insulting Thiessen’s weight.
“If you’ve ever met him in person," Vance said, "it’s quite obvious the man has never missed a burrito.”
Vance addressed his mounting burrito war during a call-in to conservative Hugh Hewitt’s Salem News Channel show where he blew it off as a “joke” and brought up Jesus, the Daily Beast reported Friday.
“ I think he’s been a little unfair to me over the last couple of weeks, and so I decided to hit back with a little spice," said Vance, a recent convert to Catholicism. "I will say that if you read the Gospel, you know, Jesus has remarkable humility."
Vance then compared himself to his god.
“He also has a remarkable way with words," Vance said. "And so I’m always going to fall short of that example, but I don’t think that there’s anything wrong with being a little spicy from time to time.”
Vance told Hewitt he didn't regret the comment — but perhaps he might.
“And, you know, maybe in two years you’ll look back and say, ‘I wish I hadn’t said that,’" Vance said. "But right now I feel pretty good about that.”
