Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is being criticized for his Mexico vacation in the middle of the pandemic and even fellow conservative Meghan McCain attacked him.

Speaking on "The View" Thursday, McCain called Cruz's vacation "one of the worst optics" she said she can think of.

After an explanation about the deregulated energy system in Texas, Whoopi Goldberg noted that the state's leaders have known that this was a problem since 2011, but didn't fix it.

"It's horrible. It looks like the apocalypse," said McCain. "I read something yesterday that said that hospitals are out of power and that the people in hospitals were trying to find generators to sit around with blankets. I mean, the last time I was in the hospital was obviously when I was giving birth. I can't imagine if the power went out. There's a lot of heads to roll a lot of people to blame. I know what's not helping right now is the fact that Sen. Ted Cruz is seen on a flight with his family to Cancún right now."

She said that she noticed reports on Twitter that Cruz was on his way back while she was speaking and that he'd likely face a lot of reporters at the airport with questions.

"But to like, literally flee your home state while people are freezing to death to go to Cancún is, uh, very Marie Antoinette."
