The Department of Justice filed a Monday motion urging a judge to allow White House ballroom construction to resume, but critics immediately flagged the filing's striking resemblance to President Donald Trump's social media posts.
Trump shared the filing in full on Truth Social Tuesday morning.
In its statement, the progressive media company MeidasTouch called it "the most deranged written Motion ever," noting it reads as if Trump dictated it himself. The motion describes the National Trust for Historic Preservation — which sued to halt construction — as "very bad for our country" and "FAKE" in capital letters.
The document continues, lauding Trump as a "highly successful real estate developer" with unique abilities and intentionally refers to former President Barack Obama as "Barack Hussein Obama," language critics describe as xenophobic.
On X, conservative commentator George Conway highlighted unusual capitalization patterns matching Trump's writing style.
And legal observers questioned DOJ independence, with editor-in-chief Adam Klasfeld stating on X the motion constitutes "a Truth Social post masquerading as legal argument."
