'It only benefited Vladimir Putin': CNN analyst shuts down Trump Oval Office chaos praise

An impassioned defense of Donald Trump's conduct last Friday where he berated Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky as "disrespectful" and demanded a thank you was swiftly and brutally dismantled on CNN on Sunday morning.

During the panel segment at the end of "State of the Union," former Trump communications adviser Erin Maguire claimed that Elon Musk doing a bang-up job rooting out fraud and waste, while taking heat off Trump, before she moved on to the contentious Oval Office press availability that shocked the world.

According to Maguire, "There needed to be limits to what we were doing with Ukraine, so again, him being the foil there, setting the stage for Trump to be able to say, 'Yeah, actually, that's right. You should be more appreciative about what we've been able to do to help you maintain your sovereignty and fight off the Russians'. So both of these can be great foils for Trump to stand there and cut the deal and make the government small."

'Well, but there is no deal when it comes to Ukraine," CNN commentator Xochitl Hinojosa pointed out.

"Actually the only person, well, the only person who benefited from the outburst on Friday was Vladimir Putin," she added as Maguire smirked. "It did not benefit Ukraine, it did not benefit America, and I know that the White House likes to take a victory lap on that."

'You clowns': Ex-diplomat Susan Rice snaps back at critics spreading new conspiracy theory

Former U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice argued to CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Friday evening that everything that went down in the disastrous White House meeting between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was staged. On Saturday, Rice was striking out at her MAGA critics.

"Well, Wolf, in my estimation, it was a setup," said Rice on Friday. "Let's recall the sequence here. Zelensky reluctantly agreed to a bad deal regarding his mineral wealth for which he got nothing in exchange. Not as bad a deal as the original one that the Trump administration proposed, but still nothing in it for Ukraine. He nonetheless was prepared to sign it, to come to Washington, to have the opportunity to try to persuade Donald Trump, before negotiations get really underway, that Ukraine desperately needs security guarantees. So he came, hat in hand, to the Oval Office. Donald Trump kept the pool spray in there for 40 minutes, and was saying things that were outrageous that like, you know, Ukraine started the war and Russia is not the aggressor."

'Didn't work out exactly great': Trump speaks out after spat with Zelensky

President Donald Trump returned to the cameras Friday evening to complain further about the Oval Office meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, telling reporters the gathering "didn't work out exactly great from his standpoint."
