The long history of women warriors

The American experience with true women warriors—not just our wonderful Hollywood Wonder Woman—has only recently begun. However, with the benefit of recent archaeological discoveries and re-examinations, we can say that women have been warriors—or certainly hunters—for millennia.

When the U.S. ended the draft in 1973, women represented only 2% of enlisted personnel and 8% of the officer corps. Today the figuresfor the officer corps are significantly higher across almost all services. As of 2018, women represented 19% of the Army officer corps, 19% of the Navy's, 21% of the Air Force's, and 8% of the Marines'.

Catholic Church cannot bless same-sex unions: Vatican

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - The Vatican said on Monday that priests and other Catholic Church ministers cannot bless same-sex unions and that such blessings are "not licit" if carried out. The Vatican's doctrinal office, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, issued the ruling in response to questions and moves in some parishes to impart such blessings as a sign of welcome to gay Catholics. The killing of a London woman earlier this month and the policing of a vigil to remember her continued to shake the British establishment on Monday, as more details emerged about what happened at the weekend ceremony.

London police chief Cressida Dick was due to meet Prime Minister Boris Johnson and lawmakers later on Monday to discuss ways to protect women from violence in the wake of the murder of Sarah Everard, who first went missing while walking home on March 3.
