A Republican state lawmaker in Maine posted -- then deleted -- an Islamophobic statement taken from a white supremacist chain email on Friday, the Bangor Daily News reported.

"Have you ever been to a Muslim hospital, heard a Muslim orchestra, seen a Muslim band march in a parade, know of a Muslim charity, ever seen Muslims shaking hands with a Muslim Girl Scout, or ever seen a Muslim Candy Striper volunteering in a hospital?" read the post on state Rep. John Picchioti's Facebook page. "Have you ever seen a Muslim do much of anything that contributes positively to the American way of life?"

Picchiotti, who serves on the state House Insurance and Financial Services Committee, deleted the post by Friday evening, but a screenshot was posted elsewhere online:

According to the Daily News, the remarks in Picchiotti's post originated in a chain email distributed among white supremacists. The representative has not commented on the post.

Earlier this year, another state Republican, Sen. Michael Willette, resigned from his position chairing the State and Local Government Committee after his own string of anti-Muslim posts came to light.
