A 9-year-old Texas girl participating in a end-of-year class trip shocked her parents this week when she told them a group of boys surrounded her behind a bathroom, whipped her with wet twigs and threatened to rape her, Fox4 reports.
Nytalia Christian is a 9-year-old elementary school student at Richardson Terrace, a public school. She reported the incident to her parents on Thursday -- but they want to know why school officials, who she also told, didn't inform them.
She was on a school trip on the last day of school when she says five boys, all under the age of 10, took her behind a restroom and held her by her wrists and ankles and lashed her with wet twigs and sticks. As a result, she has abrasions on her back. They stopped when Nytalia's classmate intervened.
Her mother, Tamar Christian, told Fox4 they threatened to "electrocute her, rape her, beat her."
Richardson Independent School District officials and police are now investigating.
“My child should not have to report to me what has been done to her, that she has come to a teacher to get assistance for,” her dad, Melvin Cook, told Fox4.
Tamar Christian said she is extremely upset by both the allegation and the way the school handled it.
“I can't even tell you what I was thinking,” she told the station. “Prayer is what got me through that day.”
A Richardson ISD spokesman contacted Fox4 with a statement, saying, "When the student initially reported the incident, she did not indicate she was injured or that other students had struck her… Once the school became aware of more serious allegations, they began a separate investigation, and the students involved are facing disciplinary consequences per the RISD code of conduct.”
Tamar Christian said she called 911 while still in the school parking lot.
“I'm on my way out the school and she says, ‘Mom, something bad happened today’ and she put her head down.” she told the station.
