It's pretty weird to think that longtime Ayn Rand devotee Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) is no longer considered right-wing enough for today's Republican Party, but these are the times we live in. Ryan's Tea Party challenger Paul Nehlen attacked Ryan's stance on border security in a bizarre new ad where he walks a giant bin marked "DRUGS" across the Rio Grande in Texas.
"Smuggling drugs into America shouldn't be this easy," Nehlen says as he walks through a river holding the aforementioned DRUGS bin that is reminiscent of the bags marked with giant green dollar signs you'd see burglars carrying around in old cartoons. "But it is. Cheap Mexican heroin is killing Americans in record numbers, and it’s got to stop. Paul Ryan’s had 18 years to fix this. He’s failed. I want to keep the cartels from killing our kids."
He then drops the bin in the river and lets it float away, where it will presumably end up in the hands of a group of feral toddlers who live on the riverbank.
At any rate, it's definitely strange to see Nehlen say, "I'm Paul Nehlen and I approve this message" while he's still holding a giant tub full of "drugs."
