Filmmaker Ken Burns knows a lot about how presidents are supposed to act -- and they don't act like Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Burns -- who has made acclaimed documentaries on past presidents Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin Roosevelt -- appeared on Morning Joe on Monday and talked about whether Trump was the least qualified person to ever be a major party's presidential nominee.
The answer was a resounding "yes," and it wasn't even close.
"William Leuchtenburg, the dean of American historians, said there is no precedent for this in American history, for someone without any credentials," Burns told the program. "I think we are susceptible because of these changing times to a message of fear and easy solutions. There are no easy solutions, but he denigrates the much-maligned but very subtle art of governance."
Burns then went on to explain that, while politics is often ugly, you do need politicians who understand how government works to make the country run.
"You need somebody who actually knows how to get it done and who doesn't just lie 200 or 300 times a day," said Burns.
